Can't say I blame her!

And good news for former loyal Guardian readers who now subscribe to the Times and Sunday Times.

Great I do have a Times subscription so will enjoy reading her there. The Guardian don’t deserve her.

HandShoe · 13/10/2022 14:30

Great! (Gave up The Guardian for The Times a while ago now...for obvious reasons)

ScribblingPixie · 13/10/2022 14:32

I've had a Times subscription since the Guardian went off, so I'm chuffed. I felt for her as she was always such a loyal supporter of the Guardian, but this feels like a really good move.

MorrisZapp · 13/10/2022 14:32

Absolutely brilliant news! I'm a Times obsessive now, the writers feel like my family.

NecessaryScene · 13/10/2022 14:32

Also Sarah Ditum: twitter.com/sarahditum/status/1580225566208163840

pattihews · 13/10/2022 14:51

I can imagine she's experiencing great relief, but the loss of Hadley will be hard for any GC backroom staff to bear.

I just wish the Guardian would get it all over and done with and die. It and the NYT are writing the world's longest suicide notes, digging in and maintain their mistaken position as the world turns. No one will ever be able to take either publication seriously as a news vehicle again. They are ships sinking by degrees.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 13/10/2022 14:56

I wonder if her first article for the Sunday Times will be about Woody Allen and how he's definitely not a wrong 'un. It's been at least 6 months since she's written one of those.

WhereYouLeftIt · 13/10/2022 15:05

Hmm, Hadley Freeman and Sarah Ditum moving in the same month. I really do wonder about The Graun, whether they'll stay in business much longer.

RoyalCorgi · 13/10/2022 15:22

I don't think Sarah Ditum has ever been employed by the Guardian - until now, afaik, she's been freelance, and already publishes a lot in the Times and Sunday Times.

Good for Hadley. I love her stuff.

Now the Guardian's all about the handmaidens and the woke bros. Can't see myself bothering with it any more.

MarshaBradyo · 13/10/2022 16:30

Great

The Guardian lost me over the last few years

TheBiologyStupid · 13/10/2022 16:36

The Times' gain is The Guardian's loss. Kath Viner should seriously be asking herself why she is losing so many great GC columnists.

Well, if it is there'll be plenty of discussion UTT from readers which will be worth reading. One of the worst things about The Guardian now is the way they close down discussion on most of their articles, as if we're supposed to just passively absorb their world view.

IamSarah · 13/10/2022 16:41

Such great news!

I literally have no reason to subscribe to the Guardian any more.

She will be excellent at the Sunday Times.

Pinpot · 13/10/2022 16:47

Great! I love Hadley and the Guardian is run by idiots who do not deserve her. Looking forward to reading her articles!

RoyalCorgi · 13/10/2022 17:07

I've always admired Hadley's stance on Woody Allen. As astonishing as it may seem, some feminists believe in the principle of "presumed innocent until proven guilty". We are supposed to live in a society ruled by principles of fairness and due process, not mob justice.

Marina Hyde next please

trytimesagain · 13/10/2022 17:16

Goodness, I had thought the Times subscription rather expensive but maybe it's time to reconsider. Both have gone to the Sunday Times, right? Anyone understand the relationship between the Times and the Sunday Times? If I subscribe to the Times I get both, but can I get just the Sunday Times for less money? (lazyweb, I know) In reality I only have time to do a leisurely read at the weekends. I suppose I could buy paper...

How quaint that you think the principles of fairness and due process are often applied to men of Allen's status. It's very freeing for you. You can say 'he was never convicted. nothing to see here'.

Other feminists choose to believe the victims of sex abuse, very few of whom ever see legal justice.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 13/10/2022 17:28

Another fan of The Times here who cancelled a paid sub to the Grauniad years ago - having read it since university.
The Times has so many outstanding journalists, good investigative journalism and despite the toddlers who shout "right wing bigots" there's a real diversity of opinions - along with a thriving tradition of btl discussion and debate.
Although the moderation gets highjacked at times by the occasional over reporting, numerous comments stand that would be censored on here.

maranella · 13/10/2022 17:30

The online only subscription is quite cheap IIRC @trytimesagain. You'll have to check and see what the offer is at the moment, but I have full digital access for less than a copy of the Sunday Times per week.

MarshaBradyo · 13/10/2022 17:30

I’ve recommended it a few times on here but Times Radio is excellent

I’m annoyed with The Guardian, it was woeful during the pandemic and has carried on in same vein. A part of me feels sad as I used to read it every weekend when younger

And John Crace?

Who else might I miss... Jay Rayner I guess - anyone else?

Barney Ronay, but I treat the sport section like it's a different paper

I subscribed to The Times for a while then stopped and was put off resubscribing by how hard it was to unsubscribe (phone call with hard sell) where as I've stayed with the Speccie because unsubscribing is easy. I also like the Sunday Telegraph for all its puzzles.
For years I only bought the Guardian and am so sad it chose America and gender ideology over British women and sanity
