Sorry if there's already a thread on this - came up as a link within a fb account I follow - twitter.com/TheProblem/status/1578414849083654144 video of JS interviewing Leslie Rutledge, Arkansas Attorney General, about why her state banned "gender-affirming care" for minors.

tbf she didn't do brilliantly - couldn't name on-demand the experts and organisations that had been consulted so opened herself up to being made to look less well informed.

JS has form for attacking people who don't leap on the right bandwagon of course.

This was pretty dire. I couldn't believe he actually did the Mermaids GI Joe <-> Barbie spectrum again with a straight face.

Couple of good reactions to it:

Kellie Jay Keen:

Andrew Sullivan (second segment after a bit on childhood "gender" treatments):

You might want to be interested in the segment by Megyn Kelly about Jon Stewart:

The reason why Jon Stewart is attracting this ire is how his show treated an invited guest Andrew Sullivan.

Ahh, NecessaryScene beat me to it with that video but my link goes directly to a part where Jon Stewart's #bekind record is examined.

I think maybe he's actually quite stupid.

BumbleShyBee · 13/10/2022 12:39

So disappointing. I really liked him and thought he was one of the good (smart) guys.

Apple have deemed this episode so important it is available to view for free. This tells you about the power big tech has over this issue.

Delphinium20 · 13/10/2022 20:30

To be honest, I'm pretty surprised Jon Stewart is defending this. I have always liked him and taken him for an intelligent and critical thinker. He's also a friend of Dave Chappelle and is in Chappelle's latest documentary.

It's so disappointing, but then again, Jon is not a woman and doesn't seem to care how this impacts women. Same old patriarchy, same old mansplainin. I should stop being surprised, I know.

He's giving apple and his audience exactly what they want to hear. I liked him on the Daily Show, bit he never surprised me with his opinion about anything - he's always pandered to his audience.

Given his lifestyle he'll no doubt know parents of 'trans' children, so will be influenced by them.

To be honest, I'd be surprised if he was able to see the child safeguarding dangers and women's rights conflicts around this issue, because its just not in his interest to do so.
