Staff survey in NHS

I feel like I've been a bit brave and put my head above the parapet with our staff survey.

I've mentioned that Stonewall involvement with the organisation makes me feel uncomfortable as a women.

There were a number of questions where gender was used instead of sex and there was a question about gender that was mandatory and only gave options of the same as your birth Yes/No and prefer not to say. No option to say none.

It's supposed to be anonymous but I'm still a bit nervous. Eek starting to come out as a gender atheist

It's not anonymous, it's de- identified. For instance they know if you haven't yet filled it out and will send it to you again to fill in. The results are then given to the senior management team who will know what was said, just not who said it.

I understand your worry but honestly, the company which sorts them wouldn't pass on who said what, and probably don't have the resources to dig out who said what - if the SLT asked.

It's important to do. Also I've asked about sex and gender to nhs digital who make the written style guide and they refered me to WHO, who say sex is male/female = biological, gender is society's construct. You are simply pointing out the correct definitions should be used and not mixed up.

I'm in two minds weather to fill it out as have been on mat leave for the last 8 months.

Thank you, OP.

I wish more people would comment, I work for a company where we analyse results and hardly anyone comments on these issues. Always surprises me.

It was a big decision, I worry that it could impact on my role. The organisation appears fully captured by stonewall and it makes me nervous.

Hasten to add I'm not homophobia or discriminatory. I have 2 LGB kids. I also have a friend with a trans child. I would never discriminate, but I do not believe people can change sex. I am very comfortable with people that don't conform to sex stereotypes and don't understand why we are pushing non conformists back into a little box, just swapping one box for another.

I preferred the 80's where all of us were able to dress how we wanted, have long or short hair, wear makeup or not and still be recognised as our own sex. Why are we encouraging dangerous and permanent surgeries on people that may just be comfortable is a skirt and heels / hoody and jeans

Well done OP.
I've done the same a few times and had to put my name to it twice! Problem is if people don't say anything, silence is assumed as content/happy with the situation!

i felt the same and made the same kind of comments!
