I loathe this woman. She is a total ghoul, monetising the pain and confusion of young people and disfiguring them for profit. She belongs behind bars.

FrancescaContini · 10/10/2022 07:56

This woman disgusts me. She refers to giving mastectomies to young teenage girls as if it were a matter of cutting their toenails.

I am very pleased she’s being scrutinised as she is not fit to be a doctor, to be treating children or to be dispensing advice to them. She should be locked up.

I'm glad they're now coming for this one, she's one of the worse individuals in this whole shit show. How can you go to medical school under 'do no haem' and learn about psychiatry and mental health etc and then go on to do this for a living?

Because she’s only thinking about the money, money, money 💰

“Do no harm” - very sick joke as far as this individual is concerned.

beastlyslumber · 10/10/2022 08:14

She should be in prison.

Yes the boasting, celebrating, comedy slang etc approach to serious, supposedly necessary surgery is something I find just mindblowing. It's inappropriate and there is no other medical field, not even cancer surgery where you're removing tumours, that engages in this weird song-and-dance, let's do a selfie, yay it's all such fun ghoulery about major procedures. It's not just gross and unprofessional, it also serves as part of the "affirmation" and celebration that makes it very hard for the young person involved to back out, because it's all so wonderful and positive and about being their true self.

I'm glad something is being done about her, but I also hope it raises questions about this approach in general. It's yet another thing about gender ideology that I just can't understand how it's allowed. How can people, especially the medically trained, see it and not think "hang on something's not right"?

I find Sidhbh Gallagher really unsettling - I think it's the use of Tiktok and the language she uses 'yeet the teets', 'this one', often talking about patients bringing 'snacks'. She says its because its the language her community uses, but to me it feels like a type of grooming. She knows exactly who she is targeting and how to reach them.

Her Instagram is very sad, all those young women with smiling faces. Does Sidhbh herself have any follow up data, 5 years, 10 years down the line, as to how her patients are doing?

Another thing I have noticed is that lots of her patients have very similar body shapes, overweight and carrying weight around the middle in particular. Is this to do with the lack of oestrogen?

"Another thing I have noticed is that lots of her patients have very similar body shapes, overweight and carrying weight around the middle in particular. Is this to do with the lack of oestrogen?"

  1. Overweight and obese young girls are morelikely to feel self-conscious and are therefore more vulnerable to ROGD.
  2. With their breasts amputated, the weight around the waist is more noticeable. If these girls were still whole, the midriff weight would not look so disproportionate.

I'm familiar with SG's work and marketing approach. There have been comments by male observers of her practice in the past that have queried why her patients don't do the less invasive form of "masculinising" their forms by simply starting to lift weights.

It would certainly be a cheaper solution, and the tactic most young males would take if they wanted to be perceived as "more manly".

From this came the conclusion that this is not about presenting as more, or thinking like a, male per se, but rather a complex internal desire to express the patient's will against a body they feel they cannot control, and that these patients felt they would rather be read as overweight males than overweight females.

This oddity is certainly also a feature with many lithe transboys/men, who seems to want to appear as very slim teen males who are barely pubescent. In reality, many teen males of that body type tend to have a hang up about their "skinniness" and lack of muscle and strength.

In short, these transmen are not portraying a typically male response to their body image, which further underlines the fact they are not particularly thinking in a socialised masculine manner.

Incredibly interesting and perceptive comment. Thank you.

@Abhannmor its really disturbing that IT are promoting persons like Taryn De Vere. Who is signing off on this. Why do they think I’m interested in De Vere’s opinion?

do they think that they’re going for the Yoof market?

i

I think its because she fits a certain 'right on' narrative, has NB kids, is 'GenderQueer' herself. One of the untouchables.

I have wondered if girls carrying extra weight would dislike their female form and be gender dysmorphic even more than slim girls as it looks so different to the Instagram ideal they are being presented with constantly?

Impossible to know as there are so few proper studies done on ROGD. But anecdotally I lurk a lot of subreddits for 'transmen' and 'gender questioning girls' and there does seem to be a huge amount of them struggling with eating disorders, body image, and childhood sexual abuse.

ThatCheeseIsMine · 10/10/2022 16:55

Yes I have wondered about the weight thing too. I wonder if it can contribute to feeling like you are not doing "girl/woman" right in yet another way, maybe you don't fit in, are not feminine enough etc, but if you're overweight that could be another factor. Then you're being offered the chance to be celebrated and told how beautiful and fabulous you are for being trans, instead of feeling like a failure. You no longer have to "fail" at being feminine, and you're invited to locate all your self-loathing in a body part that can be conveniently whipped away.

I do think there is some truth to this. Another thing I have noticed, in one of the trans subreddits I lurk, is that a lot of the girls getting mastectomies all seem to be on the larger side breastwise - many of them talk about cup sizes of G and above. So, again, I'm assuming a good number of overweight girls. And they talk about how much they hate their breasts and want rid of them, MUCH more than they talk about gender dysphoria.

This is what makes me think that the ROGD phenomenon is the new body dysmorphia. 30 years ago these girls would've become anorexic. Now they have painful surgery and medications instead.

Was my second post yesterday deleted because I used the word “castrated”?

Some of the responses to that Twitter thread are... fascinating. I can't quite describe how I feel after reading those. The victim of Gallagher clearly had a terrible, terrible time, yet focuses a lot of their anger on 'the TERFs'. It's a really strange read.

This is beyond belief. And the nurse jokes that she’s “menstruating out of her side”?

ninetynineAu · 19/11/2022 19:56

With regards to weight/body type of Gallagher's trans masc patients- I've seen a number of trans mascs on Reddit comment that the reason they went to Gallagher is that she was the only surgeon who didn't decline due to risks associated with their being over-weight.
