This was a tough read. Annoying that they used "assigned at birth" but that might be the clinic's own language.

The online pharmacies selling ‘DIY’ transitions to children

My school safeguarding lead knows all about online threat of grooming boys into incels, county lines, VAWG, 'consent' and everything else current. But when questioned about why the fuck are we promoting trans, why isn't breast-binding and taking wrong-sex hormones classed as self-harm, and how are we protecting our many vulnerable students, he had nothing to say. Complete takeover.

Ugh, so frustrating.

I truly believe the dominoes are beginning to topple Charley. I suspect we've all thought so for a while, albeit achingly slowly.

But as they fall, it becomes clear that it's only the top layer. The whole game is built on layers of dominoes.

The recognition of the entire issue as a lie to further the interests of self serving adults is what's required.

Politicians need to stop papering over the cracks.

WarriorN · 09/10/2022 09:34

These kids have no clue what they're doing. NO CLUE.

The forums normalise the drug taking; it feels, to the kids, safer when you know others are doing the same.

Horrific lack of safeguarding. Online harms x10000, but these specific issues are never mentioned in safeguarding training.

I've just read a Twitter thread where a detransitioned woman describes some girls and women thinking that their breasts grow back after mastectomies, in her detrans support group. She listed 4 out of 400 - that's 4 too many and 400 too many. Age range teens to 30s, who've had mastectomies they regret and think they will "grow back when the T is stopped" or "go back to oestrogen."

It's like a real life horror Alice down the rabbit hole, nibbling a biscuit and sipping a drink to morph back and forth.

@Charley50 I sit through the safeguarding updates on edge now, seeing exactly where all of it would fit into the guidance. But it never is.

Until it's embedded in KCSIE and Ofsted, it won't change.

Too many are on the other side of the looking glass.

Again, the scandal is not drugs being bought online due to waiting lists, it is drugs being given to kids in the first place.

I suppose this gives those that knew about it and turned a blind eye an excuse to pretend that this is brand new information.

Runningintolife · 09/10/2022 09:51

The question of how the Tavistock clinicians interacted with the knowledge that children and young people on their 1 year + waiting list were buying hormones themselves is an important thing to dig into more. Did they for instance tell them which ones to buy? Via their CAMHS team? Without discussion of the decision or of side effects or potential negative effects? It would have been an ethical dilemma. Is accepting that it was happening and giving advice the right decision? Could or should they have given strong warnings?

Datun · 09/10/2022 09:51

Smilelesstalkmore · 09/10/2022 09:09

'Hormones are complicated' - gee, thanks for that very insightful medical advice moderator Izzi.....Hmm

The TRA answer to all of this will be of course that kids should have easy access to hormones prescribed by a Dr so they don't have to get them online. And that if kids aren't allowed to inject themselves with stuff to permanently fuck with their endocrine system, then they will grow up to be unhappy adults.

But my question is, if this has always been the case, then how come kids weren't buying dodgy medications online 10 years ago? The Internet has been around for a long time now, chat rooms have existed for a long time, you have been able to buy stuff online for a long time. So why is this such a new thing?

It's so cynical.

Teach kids about made up 'gender identity'' and that they all have one and then get to treat them for all the 'symptoms' they develop as a result.

NitroNine · 09/10/2022 09:52

All this “the waiting lists are too long so we have to get illegal hormones online” - I eagerly anticipate people glitterwashing abuse of any & all drugs on the same basis. People are waiting years for joint replacement surgeries & indeed “just” to access pain management: don’t think anyone would hop on board with them buying [additional] pain medication from overseas to try to cope.

And of course getting cannabis on prescription - on the NHS, at least, there seem to be some private companies with vastly more elastic qualification categories - remains almost impossible. Importing that wholesale (or indeed retail or, er, at all, in any way, basically) isn’t allowed.

Funny priorities Reddit has - RW politics, feminism & lesbianism are to be evicted (“lesbianism” is to be exalted, naturally) & the metaphorical earth salted once this is achieved. But crack right on with this kind of child endangerment & the subs that celebrate rape etc.

Queuesarasarah · 09/10/2022 09:55

The (very selfish) thing that pisses me off is that I get hormones prescribed and dispensed online for HRT as my GP is inadequate. This is completely legal. I worry that women’s ability to get appropriate treatment will be reduced to stop teenage boys buying them (and lying about what it’s for). All because they are being groomed online by TRAs.

Yes, that article is a truly shocking indictment of mermaids. But it's also scandalous that the charity commission had not investigated them before.

Being so slow to drag their heels it's so wrong, it indicates capture, to me.

In many services, self-medicating with illegally-obtained substances would be grounds for exclusion from the service, or for onward referral to a service dealing with the substance abuse in the first instance.

And I would expect services with a strong psychoanalytic ethos (which was the founding purpose of the Tavistock) to take a particularly strong line on that front, on the basis that the substance use will impair the service-user’s ability to think psychologically.

it really highlights how far GIDS had moved away from the original exploratory, analytic ethos of the Tavi, and raises questions at a wider Trust level about how that was allowed to happen.

I’m in my 60s and have a current prescription for HRT (Oestrogel) from my GP after attending a specialist NHS menopause clinic.
When there was a HRT shortage and it was impossible to get locally I ordered some online through an online pharmacy I use occasionally. They wouldn’t sell it to me because of my age, refused outright despite the prescription.

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/10/2022 10:26

I simply wish as much effort was put in, inviting people into schools to teach children about how perfect their bodies are just as they are. They'd never invite an anorexic in to teach children how to fool your parents into thinking you are eating.

Gender is surely just personality and personalities don't need validating every second of every day and they sure as hell don't need you to take medication bought off the Internet after speaking to people who are probably just desperate to validate what they are doing.

Anything else and they'd be prison and prosecution involved. Not a sticker for the reception notice board in your school. Or a place on the top 100 employers.

How harmful does gebder ideology have to become before people wake up to what is being done to our children and their precious amazing healthy bodies.

Handsoffmyrights · 09/10/2022 10:41

Thanks for the share.

We are failing these children. It's horrific. Social contagion. Encouraging the lie that human beings can change sex. Impressionable children are so easily groomed. And it is grooming. As adults, we are supposed to be the gatekeepers.

When I say 'we' I mean politicians, NHS, Govt bodies, pharma, schools, local govt and the vampire organisations who exploit children for their own gain, either to justify the irreversible surgical and hormonal damage they enflicted on their own child, to make money, or because of darker PIE type fetishes. This has got to stop.

Thank you to the journalists who are working hard to expose this.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 09/10/2022 10:43

If it's not illegal to provide people with medication for which they have no prescription then it should be.

It absolutely is illegal. However if the medicines are being bought directly from outside the U.K. I think there may be a loophole (or at least a massive hole in the fence).

I need to go off and do some digging about this, but if there's any evidence that POMs are exchanging hands without a prescription in the U.K. this can be reported to the MHRA. I'm not sure how much they can do - they have been eviscerated by the public sector cuts with more to come - but they certainly clamp down on dubious Botox practices.

DoubleShotEspresso · 09/10/2022 12:34

Thank-you for this.

How absolutely terrifying. As somebody heavily involved supporting children and young adults with ASD and many other related conditions which render them vulnerable to this utter madness I am enraged.

How did we allow this stuff to snowball to this degree?

Very encouraged though to see the media tide is quietly turning, I'm hoping the waves get stronger and louder.

This dangerous nonsense must be ceased and legislation to prevent it introduced carefully.

Ndd135632 · 09/10/2022 13:16

@DoubleShotEspresso yep. But seems Nicola Sturgeon is bashing self id through in Scotland regardless.

ArabellaScott · 09/10/2022 13:59

She is. I am watching astonished as Sturgeon defends all of this mad, dangerous circus, evan as it collapses around us. They dismissed the Cass Report, ffs!

SecretTransTwitterEngineer · 09/10/2022 14:05

A lot of adult trans people DIY (contrary to GC beliefs, the vast majority of binary trans ppl are trying to get or are on HRT), if you want to make DIY places unprofitable, then there needs to be a sensible conversation about informed consent for adults.
