She is absolutely blistering on the Mermaids/paedophile apologist scandal and I loved her response to India Willoghby’s assertion that someone needs to take her to court.

Im not on Twitter but have read her tweets and seen reports on FairPlay for Women, WPUK and they have posted links to articles in The Telegraph etc.

She is feminist to her bones and I both admire her and am grateful to her.

The Ink Black Heart is also awesome and for anyone who hasn’t yet read any of the Strike series I’d highly recommend it!

Last night someone who was using a Tala the alien avatar+name received a threatening message with their address along with a pedo accusation, a bomb threat and the words "stop talking shit about JK Rowling". All the account had been used for was to call out JK Rowling on trans matters.

Did kiwifarms organise this?

Innocent until proved guilty, Madge.

i recall someone saying those exact words recently. 🤔

MargaritaPie · 15/10/2022 19:17

"Innocent until proved guilty, Madge."

Yes I agree. However the same also applies to Mermaids and Stonewall too, right?

Speaking of Stonewall, complaints against the Telegraph were upheld regarding accuracy of reporting. The Telegraph originally claimed AB won her case against Stonewall. That isn't the case.

Sorry I don't have a share token. JK doing what she does best - getting it out there.

That is one hell of a comment piece

I think the evidence of who has been a mermaids trustee and the talks they’ve attended are pretty well documented Madge. They’re not just made up stuff on a website.

that’s the difference between facts and bullshit.

GingerPCatt · 15/10/2022 19:38

But what about bullshit that identifies at facts? You’re bullshitphobic! Educate yourself.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 15/10/2022 20:02

Speaking of Stonewall, complaints against the Telegraph were upheld regarding accuracy of reporting.

You were the one speaking of Stonewall! Nobody else was! What does the Telegraph publishing a mistaken headline that was corrected within 30 minutes have to do with JK Rowling?

Anyway, speaking of JK Rowling, the last few paragraphs of that comment piece are just perfect. She is so talented with words; she almost never puts a foot wrong even though there are hundreds of hateful maniacs slavering over her every sentence, obsessively finding a way to twist its meaning to discredit her. The quotes from Dworkin and from Rhona Hotchkiss are deployed perfectly.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 15/10/2022 20:29

Just for accuracy re the Stonewall derail - if you actually read the judgement it is apparent that although the article was completely correct and required no amendment, there was an inaccurate headline displayed for 30 minutes - then the error was recognised and it was amended. IPSO responded to 11 complaints.

It's worth noting that the IPSO website currently recommends Mermaids for advice and support which given the widely reported paedophile / safeguarding scandal seems an odd decision ?

IcakethereforeIam · 15/10/2022 20:33

When it comes to safeguarding the same also applies to Mermaids and Stonewall too, right?

Apparently, Freddy Starr never ate a hamster.

Mud has been slung at Mermaids and Stonewall just about every day from certain tabloids and public figures for a long time.

As of yet no complaints have actually been upheld about them?

MargaritaPie · 15/10/2022 20:52

"It's worth noting that the IPSO website currently recommends Mermaids for advice"

So do a lot of well established and reputable organisations, yes.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 15/10/2022 20:55

I just remembered how JKR was vilified for declining to have a meeting with Mermaids a few years ago. That decision is holding up well, isn't it?

That’s not at all true about Mermaids is it?

Data breach and a being ordered by a court to leave a child alone that one parent was insisting was trans despite the child’s actual wishes.

There’s threads about both on here.

ApocalipstickNow · 15/10/2022 20:59

And being ordered that should say.

(not a lawyer)

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 15/10/2022 21:01

Data breach and a being ordered by a court to leave a child alone that one parent was insisting was trans despite the child’s actual wishes.

Also they've recently reported themselves to the Charity Commission for several serious incidents.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 15/10/2022 21:19

Hmm - a data breach, a paedophile scandal, employing adults with poor boundaries, criticism by Lord Justice Hayden in a court case, an emerging safeguarding scandal, doling out "medical advice" to children about puberty blockers despite not being "medical experts", encouraging children to harm their bodies behind their parent's back...

I'm relieved to see people calling out a charity with this record - it indicates that responsible adults who care about vulnerable children are finally speaking out.

CousinKrispy · 15/10/2022 21:20

Thank you for the share token. That is a very good comment piece. Thank you Margarita for keeping this thread busy so it was brought to my attention 😊

I think the thing about JK which drives powerful/influential men apoplectic is she has more money than them - which is a totally guaranteed income thst basically can’t be undermined and she won’t shut up.

and for a particular set of men - even worse - she’s also genuinely left wing.

it’s really opened my eyes about how wide spread misogyny is.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 15/10/2022 22:19

I think it's also that they can't deny her talent or her personhood. If she was rich and famous for almost any other reasons they'd find some lie to rationalise her talent and intellect away like she owes it to her privileged family, or her husband did all the real work or something. But they can't come up with any story like that about her that passes the laugh test.

Anydaynowonewouldhope · 15/10/2022 22:34

Indeed.

Also I think what distinguishes her from almost all of her critics who are “celebrities” is thst she genuinely doesn’t seem to care about celebrity status or image. So threats to ostracise her from celebrity land - whilst I’m sure are hardy pleasant - don’t really seem to matter to her. Whereas someone like Emma Watson appears to be much more dependent on the social acceptance required for celebrity.

and I don’t actually blame Emma Watson for thst but more than me system. It’s incredibly rare for someone to basically become bigger than the system as jk has.

i suspect that lots of these men assumed that jk was going to benignly dodder into a gentle national treasure figure reading cosy bedtime stories on the bbc. And instead she’s turned out to actually be interested in political change.

Faffertea · 15/10/2022 22:53

That Telegraph piece brilliantly covers so many of the issues, in Scotland and with this ideology in general. And displays JK’s skills as a writer beyond ‘just’ a novelist as well as what I said in the OP. She is feminist to her bones and cares not one jot what others think of her.

No wonder Marge is trying so desperately to get us to look elsewhere.
Its funny though because I only saw this thread had popped up again thanks to Marge’s comments!

She's like a patronus for all the vulnerable women and girls she stands up for. She lights the way ahead.

"Why don't you go and ask KF posters directly? This is Mumsnet. They're different websites, different rules, different aims"

The KF thread makes it clear a lot of users here also use KF. I get the impression from that thread the aim of KF is to dox people who are considered to be predators by the KF users? They see themselves as some sort of "vigilante" community?

Tell the Police.

Shakenotslurred · 15/10/2022 23:18

How do you know how KF see themselves @MargaritaPie ?

MargaritaPie · 15/10/2022 23:38

"Tell the Police"

But I thought kiwifarms were the police? Isn't the aim of KF to keep files on and dox people they consider to be "predators"?
