So an advert encouraging women to start an exercise programme appeared on my fb feed. Look at the first comment, then the reply. A lot of women feel intimidated in an exercise environment, looks like this is another one where they won't be able to join in freely with the expectation they are in an all female environment

Good luck to them, those ads come up on Facebook all the time here (and I'm not in Derby), always looked a bit scammy to me.

I agree and I think that makes it a proportional use of an EA discrimination exclusion but the business doesn't have to discriminate by sex.

In fact, given they say anyone is welcome, I suspect they allow all men and were just marketing at women because they are the largest group of customers.

The exercise programme will take people from any background, they say. So sex is just a matter of one's 'background' then. It feels like my 'foreground' but what do I know?

I'm just a boring non-glittery woman.

Well they're looking for '12 Derby women' which a trans woman is not. They could've turned up and said, 'I'm a woman too! Count me in.' And been accepted and r rebuffed but this posting makes me feel like they're just attention seeking. And ain't that so often the case with AGP males??? (Not necessarily trans women).

KT Hillier was probably wishing with all of their might that the answer would be 'no' just so they had a chance to be offended and to cry discrimination. I bet my next paycheck they do not sign up to the fitness challenge!

This was my first thought too.

I get this advert too, and I'm not in Derby. I never thought it was a group session? But an advert for PT? I don't think it's an issue at all unless it's a specific group/course for women that I wanted to join.

I think what made me think was the specific request for women participants, followed by the query from someone who isn't a woman, just the cheek of it. The request to me was clear.
The response from the organisation was disappointing, but I agree if it had been different the cry would have been about discrimination.
