The first thread, towards the end of which there was a discussion about having a second thread but it wasn't added:

Mermaids being investigated by the charity commission

There's been a new development so maybe a second thread would be useful:

Lottery pauses trans charity cash during investigation

Just another piece in Labour‘s current comprehensive strategy to prevent any election win at all costs.

TheClogLady · 13/10/2022 14:26

Yep. The only thing the NE and Red Wall voters like less than inflation is paedophiles.

Labour LGBT don't speak for the whole party, thank god.
It amused me to see this bunch of misogynist blokes getting upset because they think the party is TOO terfy

This seems interesting - a social worker criticised mermaids on her private profile on Facebook and is appealing the disciplinary action taken against her for it

Tribunal Tweets
We’ll report on Monday, if given permission, on a hearing of potential significance for all professional regulators and the social work profession.

It's the fitness to practice review hearing concerning the appeal by a gender critical social worker against SWE.

Here's a snippet, Clog

"It can now be revealed that West Yorkshire Police, which would be the first point of investigation, had received training from Mermaids on “trans awareness and support”.
In recent years, the force had launched a number of hate crime investigations following complaints by Mermaidss_ staff about social media comments.
On Thursday, the force refused to comment on questions from The Telegraph about whether it is still being trained by the charity or if it was examining any safeguarding concernss_.
Harry Miller, a former police officer and founder of campaign group Fair Cop, said that the connection raised issues of impartiality."

Apparently it's West Yorkshire that would be the force to investigate Mermaids? That's how the article opens. I guess that may be right if that's where Mermaids is based.

Article also reveals an apparent conflict of interest which I don't think is news to this board but is likely of interest to the wider public who won't have spotted all these kinds of links and affiliations:

"In 2019, Mermaids confirmed it had provided training sessions to both Merseyside and West Yorkshire Police and that representatives from other forces have been present at one session.
In images of one of the sessions shared on social media, the slides included a scale from one to 10 with a Barbie on one side and a GI Joe on the other, and asked: “Where on the spectrum might your gender identity be?”
Mermaids later claimed that the Barbie to GI Joe scale was tongue-in-cheek.
West Yorkshire Police has refused a number of Freedom of Information requests asking for details of its contact with Mermaids, largely on grounds of cost."

In the interests of there being impartiality and impartiality being seen it would be more appropriate for another Force to investigate if such an investigation is done.

The Mermaids HQ (should that be HQ+ ?!) is in Leeds, so that sounds right.

In the article, Allison Bailey suggests that the National Crime Agency should be the investigating force.

Gender ideology is truly the knotweed of the policy world.
