Well, this seems to be one to file under "bizarre, but true"! According to CNN Philippines, police have arrested a gang who have been luring men to fake dates with women only to kidnap them in order to fund the gang's "sex reassignment surgery":

Police said the Warla group has been operating since 2018 in the southern part of Metro Manila. Its nine identified transgender members have victimized at least 14 people, collecting P4.2 million worth of ransom money to be used allegedly for their sex reassignment surgery.

Authorities are conducting manhunt operations against other group members.

Interesting use of the correct sex in the final sentence of the CNN Philippines report! I wonder if the rainbow "Get out of jail free" card can be played in courts in the Philippines? I suspect not.

I have a Phillipino nursing colleague who is still sending money home to pay off her mother's hospital charges four years after she died. I can imagine some people might want to find other "inventive" means to fund healthcare generally. Not sure what to say about male pattern crime in relation to this.
