Long twitter thread here. She's had her electronic devices seized too, and has been accused of being certain posters on Kiwi Farms and Mumsnet

@BernardBlacksWineIceLolly and @BreakWindandFire sorry to tag you but she's been accused of being you!

We all know who this will be, but as Caroline says, please don't speculate/discuss them.

So you think she should have been held for longer? I mean how long after she says she's OK, she isn't going to harm herself?

You weren't there, he is a trained custody officer and he made a judgement, that's his job.

I'm just trying to understand.

You said 'imagine the fuss if he released her and she did harm herself and maybe died. He'd be well and truly in the shit then.'

She was honest told him that she'd thought about self harm and only said otherwise after being threatened with more time in the cells and being sectioned. If she self harmed and died after being coerced into giving a different answer, would he not be well and truly in the shit for that?

VickyEadieofThigh · 04/10/2022 12:49

I spent yesterday talking with a friend and ww were musing on how the police - all forces, it seems - have gone from being notorious for cynical, unreconstructed homophobia, racism and sexism, etc to absolute staff carriers for a movement that is based purely on people's feelings. They happily leave reports of violence, burglary, etc uninvestigated but move at the speed of light when unevidenced allegations are made of hurt feelings.

Of course, it's a movement that is dominated by men and has misogyny at its core, so...

KettrickenSmiled · 04/10/2022 12:52

beastlyslumber · 04/10/2022 12:10

What are you talking about? You're trying to say it doesn't matter because Caroline is middle class? What? It would matter more if it happened to someone else, and because I am concerned about the person it's happening to and not some hypothetical less middle class person it's not currently happening to then... something?

You seem confused, tbh. Must be hard to manage the cognitive dissonance, I imagine: "harassing women is wrong! but she's the wrong kind of woman! but it's wrong! but she's wrong!" Maybe go and lie down for a bit and come back when you've found your moral backbone.

Don't be silly @beastlyslumber. It's possible to dislike Farrow, dislike police high-handedness, AND dislike the fact that MN is on the warpath for a privileged woman without single other comment about wrongful arrest & power-abusing harassment frequently happening to less well-off women. That's not cognitive dissonance, it's just the ability to consider more than one concept simultaneously.

WarriorN · 04/10/2022 12:53

Just seen this; oh my goodness.

I hope she's ok

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/10/2022 12:53

I assume someone has contacted Lisa Townsend the Surrey PCC.

I don’t know the full extent of a PCC’s powers but I hope they go beyond extracting an apology.

wow!! That must have been so scary. Hope he loses his job over that.

MelodyPondsMum · 04/10/2022 12:55

I wonder if we could get MNHQ to do a webchat with a QC about women's rights concerning arrests/cautions/vexatious complaints, etc. They could provide a detailed checklist on what to do when faced with a police officer at the door; an officer determined to gain entry; an officer casually referencing sectioning, etc because this thread shows that some posters seem to think random Googles are the same as understanding the law and their rights. It isn't.
Also, is it possible to have a group litigation order against the police? Women need to mobilise collectively around these particular issues with the police.

beastlyslumber · 04/10/2022 12:56

There you go. You dislike the fact that women are standing up for a woman you don't like.

So you're right @KettrickenSmiled - no cognitive dissonance for you, just pure misogyny and saying anything you can think of to try to justify it.

AlisonDonut · 04/10/2022 12:56

So posting about this woman is 'on the warpath' and you dislike that we don't post about different women.

Have you started threads about other women yourself or are we just doing this all wrong again?

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/10/2022 12:59

AND dislike the fact that MN is on the warpath for a privileged woman without single other comment about wrongful arrest & power-abusing harassment frequently happening to less well-off women.

This is extremely stupid. There are plenty of threads on here about how the police mistreat women. This thread is about how they’ve mistreated Caroline Farrow. Perhaps if you have nothing germane to say here you could make a thread about one of the other cases you’re purportedly concerned about?

MelodyPondsMum · 04/10/2022 13:01

Can't we just grey rock the sealion? They're only here to stop us talking about the issues. Their sole purpose is to try to stop this thread discussing the fact the police are overstepping the law; and are acting like hired help; that they are responding to vexatious complaints rather than warning the vexatious complainants of the consequences of wasting police time.
How many women have reported VAWG or stalking and harassment and been told by the police that it's just a domestic or they can't do anything or to keep a diary? Yet look at what they can find time for ... acting as stalkers and harassers by proxy.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 04/10/2022 13:02

ancientgran · 04/10/2022 12:33

Reading comprehension is nothing to do with it. She hasn't given a verbatim report, you know nothing about attitude or tone from either her or the officer.

You are reading what you want to see into it.

There are ways to respond if they genuinely believe someone is at risk of self-harm.

Locking them back into cells until they give an answer that covers the backside of the officer in question, whilst doing nothing to protect the ostensibly vulnerable person, isn't one of them.

You seem to have chopped that post a bit to completely change context?!

The former chopped by you makes out that it's because someone is standing up for a woman and it's misogyny, whereas the poster was talking about other women who are less well off, less privileges, no public platforms to rally support, there's not a peep for them.

ImherewithBoudica · 04/10/2022 13:07

Oh she's Catholic and privileged?!

Burn the witch! Get the pitchforks!

Jeez there really are people born out of their time, who'd have bloody loved the witch trials, or the Guillotine era, or the Inquisition.

picklemewalnuts · 04/10/2022 13:07

YY!

Threats of actual violence against women are not investigated.
A woman is fingered for posting a mean meme, by someone who hates her gets arrested.

Feminists here rallied to support the woman arrested in Newport for that well known crime, Stickering, even though she was not a middle class tummy mummy.

Telling someone to rethink their answer or be sectioned is not a helpful offer. It's a threat. Helpful advice would be 'If I think you are at risk of self harm, I'd have to call medics in and consider whether you need to be sectioned for your own safety'.

So much shot being talked by male apologists.

@MNHQ
This is a brilliant idea.

Please could you do this? This is something that EVERYONE should know, not just women.

Remember - when you teach a man, you have taught a man. When you teach a woman, you have taught her whole family.

TheClogLady · 04/10/2022 13:10

Massive whataboutism going on here - we’ve supported loads of women through similar experiences, off the top of my head, Kate Scottow, Marion Millar, Jennifer Swayne, Posie P.

Never once have we considered the value of their house or their educational background or family income.

fuck off with that.

Yes, I ignored the whataboutery and focused on the misogyny.

Other people have commented on the whataboutery, though, so don't worry Ganymede.

You wouldn't believe how some people get mixed up about who they are. It seems to be a very easy mistake to make.

Ah, selective quoting @beastlyslumber. The part that you've omitted, which explains that I dislike the warpath choice because it totally ignores the similar plight of thousands of other women changes the sense entirely, but why let facts get in the way of your tiny crusade?

Also, I don't think you quite understand what misogny means. Disliking one female individual doesn't equal misogyny.
