What a surprise.

Trouble is, this will be cast as their mental health problems being the result of not being accepted as their chosen identity.

Rather than their adoption of the whole trans thing being a reaction to their mental health problems which arise from entirely different factors.

And in other news; Pope is Catholic

SirChenjins · 02/10/2022 09:14

It’s almost as blinding obvious as the fact that you can’t change sex.

It will. I have always seen this claim as gaslighting and I'm not buying it now.

5zeds · 02/10/2022 09:14

I agree @ChampagneCommunist Seems fairly obvious

NecessaryScene · 02/10/2022 09:14

Yes, it's hard to resist the quip that the headline would better be "High proportion of transgender patients found to suffer from other mental health issues".

But that's not just a quip. Obviously having this sort of belief in being "transgender" (ie somehow being the "wrong" sex, or being in the "wrong" body, or being "wrong" for your sex) is a symptom of some sort of problem. It's incredibly likely that the "mental health issue" is indirectly the either the cause of the identification as transgender, or is comorbid with an undiagnosed cause.

@ChagSameachDoreen you are spot on. Last time I said that my post was deleted, so you know it's true!

JacquelinePot · 02/10/2022 09:19

Well, that was quick! In the time it took me to write my post Chag was deleted! How said that there are limits to the truths we're allowed to tell.

IsadoraQuagmire · 02/10/2022 09:45

Well of course. A person who doesn't have mental health issues wouldn't think they could change sex in the first place.

Oh yes.......

Ramblingnamechanger · 02/10/2022 12:06

It is the mental health issue and yes there are likely to be others. I am somewhat prepared to be kind on that basis , but not that people can change sex or identity and put women at risk.

picklemewalnuts · 02/10/2022 12:07

Chag and Pot could you rephrase that point for those of us who missed it? Is that possible?

BetterCallMe · 02/10/2022 12:12

No shit Sherlock.

From my personal experience of my trans child, it's so so obvious. But no, transitioning will be the solution to all they're problems Confused
