This has come up on my Facebook. The irony of claiming that some people want to tell ‘trans children’ that “being who they are is not okay” when they are literally, physically trying to stop them be who they are is …..mind blowing.

I’m actually at a loss for words. I also wonder if they are targeting teachers on FB with their campaign.

Took me a moment to realise "Read Less" was not part of the ad - a new version of no debate.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 27/09/2022 09:27

Had the exact same thing!

ReeseWitherfork · 27/09/2022 09:27

I just feel so awfully sad for all the children who don’t conform to gender stereotypes. A boy who likes Elsa is just a boy who likes Elsa. A girl who likes monster truck rallies is just a girl who likes monster truck rallies.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 27/09/2022 09:28

Argh quote didn't post. Was referring to the "read less" bit.

Fenlandia · 27/09/2022 09:54

At some point in their lives, nearly everyone has to deal with unkindness, bullying and harmful stereotypes in the big wide world. This isn't just for gender but could be for religion, nationality, accent, class, age, sexuality, fashion choices, skin colour, homelessness, appearance, 'being the new girl in class', etc etc etc!!

Mermaids' answer isn't to teach resilience and finding your place in the world, it's "Make yourself into a lifelong medical patient and coccoon yourself into our safe spaces"!

OfficiallyBroken · 27/09/2022 09:56

My daughter gets grief in school from her peers, not her friends for not admitting she's a trans boy...because she has short hair, dresses like a skateboarder/metal fan and fancies women.

She's not a trans boy, she's a young woman who wants short hair and likes skateboarding, heavy metal and thinks Zendaya is perfection.

Mermaids and their ilk are the ones making children feel like they don't belong and their version of living is the wrong one. Conform with their ideals or be branded a bigot.

Novel idea, let kids be kids. Hair is just hair, clothes are just clothes, hobbies are just hobbies - get a fucking grip!

Mermaids answer to 'be yourself' is actually 'change yourself' isn't it.

Change your body to fit your personality
Change you name to fit your changed body
Change your relationships with friends and family

Sign up to a brand new, better version of yourself and spend a lifetime paying for it.

Me too!

Change your relationships with friends and family

Probably "change your friends and family for our love bombing echo chambers, if they are less than 100% supportive of everything you do"

Tallisker · 27/09/2022 12:11

I like monster truck rallies

Jobsagoodun1 · 27/09/2022 14:09

I have had this ad several times with different pictures. I’ve hidden all ads with FB, but I get them again after a few weeks.
I had a look at the petition, but all it really seems is that they want to reach a certain amount of signatures and use that as positive affirmation of support for Mermaids.
Weirdly I also keep getting ads for egg donation or surrogacy advice...

bitachey · 27/09/2022 14:12

Gosh, yes it’s kind of mind blowing isn’t it.

Coconutmeg · 27/09/2022 21:50

It does put you at a loss for words.

KnightonShiningArmour · 27/09/2022 23:08

I reported the ad to Facebook. Awful and misleading advertising!
