Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

My local NHS has finally stopped asking my child’s “gender” in place of their sex

For the last 2 years, the annual flu vaccine parental consent form has asked what “gender” primary school age children are instead of their sex. I won’t rehearse here why, when administering vaccines and any other pharmaceutical intervention, actually knowing the biological sex of the human receiving it is pretty vital (as is recording of population data on who receives these interventions (and who doesn’t)). However, having just been sent this year’s form, I wanted to note here that THEY NOW ASK FOR THE CHILD’S SEX!! Hurray! Anyone else noticed this in their local vaccine programme?

That's brilliant OP. Small steps and all that in removing the clutches of the lobby groups from the throat of the NHS.

+1
Only our youngest is still at school but I'll be keeping an eye out for these forms.

RadFemApparently · 21/09/2022 20:06

Ours still had 'gender' on 😞

I also noticed it said gender when I caught a glimpse of the computer screen when I took my child to a hospital appointment.

FemaleAndLearning · 21/09/2022 20:26

Good news.

WarriorN · 21/09/2022 20:51

Are you in the north east? I noticed mine also had sex.

It's an online thingy this time.

Unfortunately Newcastle university medical school has completely sold its soul to gender ideology from what I can gather.

WarriorN · 21/09/2022 20:52

I wonder if they got sick of everyone scrawling SEX! Over gender (I did) so went online AND changed it to sex!

carefulvulvadriver · 22/09/2022 07:48

@WarriorN not north east, but yes it’s moved to an online form where
i am too. No nonsense. Just sex: M/F/prefer not to say

That's positive. When registering us for our new GP recently I crossed out gender and wrote in sex instead on our forms. The receptionist gave the biggest huff and eye roll when she saw.

I don't have school aged DC but someone I know mentioned these forms and crossing out gender to write the child's sex.
Hopefully no huffing involved from staff as the child identified (and passed) as the opposite sex so it was rather important to be accurate.

Lougle · 22/09/2022 09:09

I always cross out gender and reinstate sex.

StillWeRise · 22/09/2022 09:12

hooray!

KittenKong · 22/09/2022 18:27

I was booking out covid jabs on the phone and was answering the questions for us all. The first one was ‘could you be pregnant’?’ I girded my loins to be asked this for my male lot - but the woman got the the question and just said ‘well I’m not asking that one!’

maybe grown ups are coming back into the room?

Rowthe · 22/09/2022 18:31

Ours said gender

Igmum · 22/09/2022 20:31

Excellent!

I was doing an HR form yesterday which asked for gender identity but not sex. It was an online form so I ticked other and in the box asked why they weren't asking about sex, the legally protected characteristic.

My male partner was asked if he could be pregnant at his Covid jab 🙄

KittenKong · 22/09/2022 20:40

I hope he said ‘yes’

SeagullSausage · 22/09/2022 20:48

I also did the online flu vac form for the DC today and noticed this

After years of crossing our gender and writing sex, or ticking other and ranting in the free text box of online forms, today felt like a v good day.

Blackandwhitehorse · 22/09/2022 20:51

This is good news, I’m also noticing many more job adverts are referring to sex as the protected characteristic not gender, plus gender reassignment not identity

KittenKong · 22/09/2022 20:52

I have enrolled in a course and see their policy stating ‘gender (or sex)’ as a characteristic. Everything else was correct. Debating whether to ask them to change it.

Notjusta · 22/09/2022 20:52

Still gender for the online form here in Surrey 🙄

RadFemApparently · 23/09/2022 06:38

Mine was a paper form. Could it be that the paper forms say gender and the online forms say sex?

MenaiMna · 23/09/2022 07:21

Mine doesn't ask at all (Secondary in Wales)

Almosthere · 23/09/2022 07:32

This is probably because the Trust has implemented electronic prescribing recently. When doing the business analysis on prescribing process, it suddenly becomes apparent that the information required to prescribe properly, is sex, not gender!
This fits with the online forms too.

Ginger1982 · 23/09/2022 07:37

DH went to give platelets and they refused to take them from him because he refused to answer the 'have your ever been pregnant' question.

Tenpintonpin · 23/09/2022 07:40

Yep, I noticed 'sex' on our online form now (Hants).
