Happy to talk to people, such as JKR, with "problematic" views but only about other topics not the "problematic" views. Not that he tells us what he finds problematic about these views.

I wonder if GN got any abuse for having JK on his radio show. I guess this was his opportunity to distance himself from her "problematic" views. But no wonder he struggles to get guests on with diverse views if he has a sideways swipe at them shortly after. I know it's his thing but It's a bit condescending.

Abhannmor · 19/09/2022 20:20

He was funny once in Fr.Ted. The End

TheBiologyStupid · 19/09/2022 21:30

I suspect that GN is just another gay man who hasn't noticed what has changed in LGB campaigning because he hasn't been affected by it and thinks "if Stonewall are saying this they must be right". Time to wake up - which bizarrely means time to stop being woke. What a world we live in.

Heartening to see him being taken to task on the letters page today. Don't think this will work as a share but will see if I can get it another way:

@WolverineBluey thank you. Yes, can't see the article as a non subscriber. Now you've put it here though, I expect someone who can share token it might?

WolverineBluey · 25/09/2022 10:14

This is the only other link it will let me share - not as a token though so will probably have the same problem.

Graham Norton’s problem isn’t JK Rowling, but women

That works, Wolverine - thanks l

MrsOvertonsWindow · 25/09/2022 10:39

Excellent letters. I also take pleasure in seeing how many men are now speaking out in the Times. Also interesting that there were no letters from anyone praising Norton - it's normal for the letters section to include both sides - evidently nobody thought his comments were worth praising.

DameMaud · 25/09/2022 10:43

Got it! Thanks so much for making that extra effort@WolverineBluey
It was great to read those reasoned, articulate comments

Datun · 25/09/2022 10:48

Yes. We've al known for ages that her views are perfectly reasonable. But the smear campaign has meant that, without even reading them, many people just assumed they weren't.

it's heartening to see that, finally, people are actually aware of what she has said.

And, of course, it's another nail in the coffin for those who seek to undermine. People are wising up to the tactics. No-one likes to be duped.

LovinglifeAF · 25/09/2022 11:02

I’ve gone right off him and won’t be watching his programmes anymore. What a massive wanker.

I wonder what he has to say about Graham Linehan who must have played a significant part in him getting where he is

Ha! Excellent.

Fluffyfluffflufffluff · 25/09/2022 13:22

Good letters. I don't imagine GN will give a hoot, though. He seems rather dismissive of the whole thing. Lovely patriarchy.

Eaten bread is soon forgotten. A saying GN will have heard , being a Cork man.

Ohnohedident · 25/09/2022 19:27

He's a stale talk show host in a crowded marketplace (does anyone even watch talkshows on TV anymore?) hence the move in to authorship.
If he has as much talent as JKR has in her little finger nail he will be lucky.

maltravers · 26/09/2022 10:52

An interview with GN was on the Today programme today (2h 48 in if you want to hear it). He was wriggling around trying to imply there was something wrong with JKRs views, that she was an untouchable for a reason and implying that she was one of those who could only measure success by what someone else loses. All at the same time as saying respectful dialogue and maybe negotiation was the way. Maybe it would help respectful dialogue if people read what someone had written before taking part in the pile on against them Graham.

nauticant · 26/09/2022 10:58

The main message from his appearance on the Today programme (just before 8.50) was that JKR and her views wouldn't be a problem if only she could keep them to herself.

ScrollingLeaves · 26/09/2022 11:46

He was on Radio 4 Today near the end at about 2hrs 48mins in.
Re JKR he was asked “Do you think she is a transphobe?”

“Well I certainly think she’s not making the situation better. I thinks she’s….fuelling the fire. But …huh….I don’t know what’s happened there…..you’ve asked me about it again so I’ll be linked to her again. Her name is like beetle juice except you don’t need to say it three times you just say it once and you unleash the hords - and it’s hordes from everywhere….. every side, everyone who’s ever had an opinion.”

Then he goes on to say it should be like a debate but a rambling negotiation.

ScrollingLeaves · 26/09/2022 11:47

Sorry. NOT like a debate

WolverineBluey · 26/09/2022 11:50

Ugh. How unpleasant from him Scrolling. JKR has done nothing to deserve this bullshit from Norton, and he's got nothing to gain by making it worse every time he opens his mouth. He could very easily deflect his way out of this and get back to promoting his book, which he seems to be doing a pretty rubbish job of because all I hear about is this. He's completely derailing himself.

AtrociousCircumstance · 26/09/2022 11:53

Another cowardly entitled man revelling in his advantage and betraying women.

Fuck off Graham Norton I thought better of you.

ScrollingLeaves · 26/09/2022 12:16

It does seem he is being a bit disingenuous, cowardly, and lazy/uninterested in not looking into what is really troubling women.
