What’s happened is that gender ideology is very firmly entrenched in Canadian schools, most Canadian schools let teachers dress casually so while it’s obviously way over the line, there often isn’t much in the way of expected dress for staff, and finally the teachers’ unions are very strong and admin and the school districts are terrified of having to deal with them.

ArabellaScott · 19/09/2022 23:20

I'd like to hear what Margaret Atwood thinks of this.

Speaking of this, I haven't seen this as of yesterday in any mainstream media here in Canada.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 20/09/2022 09:20

Have we had any TRAs on here defending this person yet? I know there were a few earlier on in the thread claiming it was a hoax. But I don’t think I’ve seen any of them doing the minimisation which normally follows once denial is no longer possible.

“It’s rude to look,” anyone? No? Or what about “if you think this is sexually motivated it’s because YOU’RE a pervert.” Come on, lads, you need to do better. “What about cis women with big breasts, should they be allowed to teach?” The absence of bullshit is strangely unsettling.

ArabellaScott · 20/09/2022 09:35

When this type of thing happens the strategy is usually furiously ignoring it because even the most ardent TRAs understand that it really can't be defended.

I'm not sure I needed that mental image.

Ah don't worry, there's a fair amount on Twitter.

Along the lines of 'if the esteemed woman wants to parade around with the big balloon tits, that's her truth, who are we to judge, try not to be so blinkered'.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 20/09/2022 09:43

And this is where the real danger lies. Becoming so ‘woke’ that expressions of fetishism in front of children are ignored, in order to appear ‘right on’. It’s a form of grooming and boundary testing. Confuse children as to what is and isn’t acceptable. Make them question themselves and their instincts and hey presto, before you know it…well, you know it. I don’t need to say it.

ArabellaScott · 20/09/2022 09:46

So. Kayla Lemieux is defended by the school board. Parents seem disinclined to protest. Kayla is not even going to be asked to tie the wig back for safety reasons?

What will Kayla do next?

Matt Walsh:

I'm sure most women have experience of having our "gender expression" policed in the workplace. Off the top of my head, I can think of a friend with a naturally large bust whose manager (female) told her not to wear such low cut tops to work because it distracted the men in the office, a colleague who was politely asked to wear less tight bodycon dresses in a professional services environment, and the time my friend got called in by her boss for wearing short shorts on dress down friday.

We can discuss where the line should be and which of those examples are and aren't appropriate, but most of us would probably agree there should be a line somewhere. So why is the school allowing this teacher to dress in a way which would almost certainly cross the line if they were female?

And on top of that, it's just so offensive and demeaning as a woman looking at the caricature of women he's portraying here. I never really realised as much how unimportant our views really are in society still

Xenia · 20/09/2022 12:20

It is ridiculous. He could easily buy a smaller pair. I agree it is slightly complex an issue as plenty of women and presumably some teachers get breast enhancement surgery but they probably wear a jacket and top over it rather than turning up in a micro skirt, high heels, stockings and not much of a top on.

I suppose very obese 25 stone teachers might also get a bit too close to the bunsen burners in the way this person might with the massive stick on br easts but it just seems Canada has lost all common sense over this.

WaveyHair · 20/09/2022 12:29

If I saw that coming towards me in a dark street I would turn and run, never mind having him teach in a school.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 20/09/2022 12:31

Pleased to hear Matt Lucas accurately identifying this as sexual harassment of the children. I'd add to that women as well.
Although I suspect that in the UK, schools with staff dress codes would be able to stop this (as would the national professional teachers' standards), there are enough useful idiots promoting drag queen story time to children that furthers this safeguarding breaching approach (including a minority of head teachers who have encouraged these unsuitable adults into their schools).

Ritascornershop · 20/09/2022 16:23

Weird as it is to agree with Matt Walsh, he’s absolutely right that there is no rock bottom here. A teacher could show up in Canada dressed as a furry, or in bdsm gear and it appears that most school districts would not do a damn thing about it.

I was talking to a friend the other day who works in a school and I mentioned a teacher who’d lost his teaching license due to a sexual involvement of a student (student aged 16-17). She said it goes on all the time, just some of them get caught. There was another one caught the previous year (this is in a city so multiple schools). So it doesn’t entirely surprise me that some of these perverts view work as a “bring your fetish to school day” opportunity.

Awareness of safeguarding in Canada is nowhere near what it is in the UK.

ArabellaScott · 20/09/2022 16:40

Yes, inevitably teaching is always going to be a profession that attracts people with bad intent, unfortunately. That's why you sort of expecting robust safeguarding, and that's why it's so shocking when it's absent. This isn't even just absent, it's actively taking the principles of safeguarding and setting them on fire.

ReunitedThorns · 20/09/2022 17:05

This reminds me of an episode of RuPaul's Drag Race (awaiting the criticism for watching it), where Sharon Osbourne judges some of the (heterosexual) guests dragged up, and says to one guy with a huge bust "I bet you've got a stiffy under that dress".

ArabellaScott · 20/09/2022 17:16

Sharon's quite sharp, isn't she.

That tweet has been deleted. Good news? Bad news?

This is how CBC have covered it. Absolute cowards. I utterly despair of Canada.

Ritascornershop · 20/09/2022 21:05

Unsurprisingly pathetic coverage from the CBC. No photo of the boob-bedecked teacher, just that it’s not this Stephen fella. No discussion of fetishes or misogyny or safeguarding.
