Standing for Women - Brighton

It sounds like the event will definitely go ahead, but I am not sure where it will be held.

K-J has mentioned three different potential venues, but I can't seem to find confirmation on any social media.

I will be travelling down on the Saturday anyway, so no rush, but would like to have an idea of where I am going on the Sunday.

Does anyone here know for sure?

I thought it was The Level, a small park five minutes away from Brighton Station.

FastAndStillFurious · 12/09/2022 23:25

Yes, I heard the Level too. But initially it was going to be at Preston Park and I don't know why that was changed to the Level. Someone then said the Level had a fair on it, so it was going to be held next to Brighton Pavilion.

I expect the Police may be advising on the best venue, but it can't just be me who isnt'clear what's going on?

It's nearly a week away, I'm sure it will be made clear nearer the time.

The one I went to, about two years ago, we turned up at the original venue, which had in the meantime (on the day) been cancelled because of organised online brigading by TRAs.

Our meeting took place later that evening, at another venue.

The TRAs were told where we were gathering, and the TRAs did their online and phone blockading and slating of the original venue until it folded and cancelled women on the day.

Are we still having to be careful of women's meetings? Regarding The Bloko Haram / Black Pampers?

MishyJDI · 13/09/2022 07:46

It's a very brave move for KJK to take her meeting to Brighton, which is very woke of course and had 10,000+ trans people at their pride march in July. I can't see the TRAs and their allies not responding back in a big way - which is probably why Brighton has been chosen as the venue for this one to try and capture some publicity.

Make sure you have a phone camera and keep safe.

At the moment it is still due to take place at the Level Park, and police are expected to be on hand to keep everyone safe and allow a peaceful event.

Is anyone else uncomfortable that an event which was always going to end up being a bit of a barney is being held the day before the Queen's funeral?

Perhaps the howling TRA mob could let the women have their woman-focussed meeting in peace, in respect for the Queen?

She's not short of courage.

FastAndStillFurious · 13/09/2022 11:36

I've just received an email with confirmation of the venue. It's south of the Level, in the gardens north of the Dome.

The area is surrounded by the main roads in and out of Brighton, so I expect Police out in force to prevent traffic disruption at least.

I hope that any TRA protesters will be peaceful given the sensitive timing. Hopefully they will stay away and let women speak.

Did the email ask you to post that info online?

The venue isn't secret. I got an email because I booked a ticket via eventbrite.

There is no requirement to book a ticket via Eventbrite to attend the event, so the location will be made public. I expect K-J will be making a video about it soon enough.

Unlike WPUK meetings where venues are threatened and end up cancelling bookings, this event is being held in an open public space. There are no restrictions on attending. Protesters are of course free to attend, it would just be appreciated if they did not interfere with the event itself.

Is Brighton a particularly anti-women city? This is about women being able to speak and organise as women, without having to pretend that men can be women. Why are some people so threatened by this?

Have name changed but do take a look at this local group.

I won’t be going on Saturday as I don’t think it will help things that are import at a local level.
I will now revert to my previous name

FemaleAndLearning · 13/09/2022 21:04

Looking forward to the meeting and listening to all the remarkable women who will be there. I'm okay that the transactivists can protest women talking (free speech in a democratic society) but hoping the police will be true to their word and will arrest those that try and drown us out.

Seems like they are doing very good work, having set up recently to start organising events that sound not dissimilar to the SFW event. Were they inspired by KJK?

I could not see anything to suggest that there is a problem with SFW having an event in Brighton. Surely women who are interested in attending these sorts of events would be pleased to have even more opportunity to do so locally?

KJK has been liaising with local women, so presumably some of them might be involved with Brighton Sisters?

FemaleAndLearning · 13/09/2022 22:44

It isn't about Brighton, it's about touring the UK and reclaiming the public space one Speaker's Corner at a time. The reason for doing this is because so many women have been silenced, cancelled and banned from social media and cannot be heard.
The link to the local group makes it clear the group don't agree with Standing for Women on various issues and that is fine we don't all have to agree. Good on them for being women only, female registered at birth.
