Not sure if it is today or next week. Do we know if this is open like the tribunals?

I've got my email with the pass code for joining the video screening. It says we have to join using our whole name.

So we have to dox ourselves to watch? Am I reading that right?

HirplesWithHaggis · 10/09/2022 02:02

Per SpottyBumPony at 11.06 yesterday, it is a requirement from the judge that remote viewers "identify themselves to the tribunal in writing (by email) by providing their full name, home address and email address before they are admitted to the CVP room." You can call that doxxing yourself if you choose.

deeperthanallroses · 10/09/2022 03:29

Someone said up thread that real names are visible as attendees when you access it if that’s what you mean, yes you will be out as attending.

I understand the request for name and address to receive an access code. What I didn't expect was to be told I have to use my own name to watch. When watching the Allison Bailey tribunal all the names of those watching could be seen, but nicknames were allowed. If this set up is used then all the actual names of everyone watching will be public. That's what I mean by doxing.

I have a trans child in my family and I don't discuss my views with family members. Other people will have many other reasons for not wanting to use their actual name.

The clerk is checking the names observers sign on as against the emails received where people had to fully identify themselves and agree to abide by the directions of the judge. If you don't give your full name there's a chance you'll be left in limbo in the waiting room unable to see/listen to the hearing. However, some people have been allowed to attend having only provided only a first name or an initial and surname, which I assume was an oversight/relaxed approach by the clerk.

For anyone who watched the Allison Bailey hearing, it's easy to see why this tribunal is being much firmer. Also, it's not an Employment Tribunal where I'm guessing they have a more relaxed practice in view of the nature of the claimants.

I would have preferred to use my usual pseudonym, as well.
I've just used my first name for this hearing, as I have a very distinctive surname.

At least we don't have to suffer the ridiculously immature behaviour of the TRAs with their aliases. To them, Allison's tribunal was just a big joke.

This.

As it is repeatedly demonstrated that we now live in an era where there are those with no grip on social appropriacy or boundaries or capacity to respect others or the situation they are in, gatekeeping in all spaces is going to have to be strongly tightened up and enforced rather than allow people freedoms reliant on them knowing how to behave and having the capacity to by themselves.

All spaces. I'm for it.

Most mothers teach this to their kids as 'why we can't have nice things'.

Thank you for that classy, totally unspiteful and not snide at all little plop there, I'm sure we all learned from it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/09/2022 10:42

Let's hope Mermaids don't lose, eh?

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 10/09/2022 10:47

The courts should use a better platform that allows webinar /live stream mode. That way observers don't have the power to disrupt proceedings and it's an exercise in Open Justice.

These ploppers will look very silly if that happens.

It's a much longer game than that. What do you think of the high water mark of gender identity ideology with #nodebate and almost universal acquiescence by the institutions and the powerful on the run-up to about 2020 and how that has receded since?

Rainbowshit · 10/09/2022 11:14

So if Mermaids win can we do the same to stonewall? Trying to change the law to allow rape by deception to be legal conflicts with rape charities work. Trying to remove single sex exceptions must also conflict with women's and perhaps religious charities.

As pp said, I don't think the unintended consequences from the precedent if they win are something these people have fully considered.

This.

The main point of all these cases is to get all this information out in the public eye and examined, openly, with full widespread public awareness. To look at it all in the context of actual law as opposed to identified as being law, to look at the values and behaviour involved behind gender ideology. Every single case regardless of outcome has hugely helped in this cause. The political agenda has always relied heavily on succeeding by happening via 'cosy cups of tea in quiet back rooms' as has been openly stated by one of the key drivers of this, and all of it happening out of sight, without democracy, without discussion, without anyone having the time to stop to think 'hang on a minute, this can't be right'.

We are now fast reaching the point in this country of it being seen as a belief system, essentially a choice of faith. We are a tolerant, multi faith society, but no one faith is given privilege or precedent over others, and heresy is not a crime.

The funniest bit was when she lost.

Really? I must have dreamt the considerable compensation she got then when her employers lost. 🤷‍♀️

nauticant · 10/09/2022 11:37

The funniest bit was when she lost.

She lost in the way Helen Steel and David Morris lost in the McLibel case. The result in the court room went against them. But that result wasn't the point.

TheKeatingFive · 10/09/2022 11:37

I'm not close to this case, but I can't even begin to understand what grounds Mermaids they think they have to shut down another organisation. It makes no sense.

And just are Mermaids taking this case? Surely it makes more sense for SW?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/09/2022 11:39

They were in it very early on as shown by the archive linked in a tweet I posted upthread. They obviously thought better of it when it came to it.
