Not sure if it is today or next week. Do we know if this is open like the tribunals?

And i sincerely hope to see Mermaids hoist by their own petard. The absolute gall of them to challenge LGBA in this way.

I love that phrase!

FemaleAndLearning · 09/09/2022 10:39

Gov decision on giving LGB Alliance. It is out of date regarding Maya Forstater as only mentions the 2019 court ruling.

Reading this I'm intrigued what Mermaids (and Stonewall?) are complaining about.

Mermaid's response (you have to open a document they don't have it as a PDF) mermaidsuk.org.uk/news/lgb-alliance-charity-status-hearing/

If you want to listen to the hearing write to [email protected] about case CA/2021/0013 - Mermaids vs Charity Commissioner and LGB Alliance and ask for permission to join. You then have to provide certain information and agree to a judge's direction in order to be able to join.

Thanks for this info

ArabellaScott · 09/09/2022 10:53

'If the court decides that the Charity Commission was wrong to award charitable status to LGB Alliance, the ruling could have implications for other charities, potentially making them vulnerable to legal challenges by institutions with conflicting outlooks.'

From the Guardian article

ArabellaScott · 09/09/2022 10:53

Not sure Mermaids have any idea what the consequences could potentially be if they should win.

nauticant · 09/09/2022 10:56

What's that? Mermaids are engaged in a process where they don't have an idea of the long term consequences?

ArabellaScott · 09/09/2022 11:02

😬

It's quite obvious that this could backfire spectacularly. If it is found that LGB Alliance should not have charity status because "the purpose of LGB Alliance is [not] exclusively charitable for the public benefit” then surely this would also almost certainly apply to both Mermaids and Stonewall.

Hopefully this will prevent the stupid behaviour from some observers that happened last time

Anyone who wishes to observe should confirm they have read and understood direction 12 of 6.9.22 by Judge Griffin (included below) and send us the directed information (Full name, address, email address).

Only those who have complied with will be sent the updated CVP link and allowed into the virtual hearing room by the clerk

Pursuant to s85A Courts Act 2003, in the particular circumstances of this case, bearing in mind all of the relevant provisions, I have decided that it is in the interests of justice to make this direction to allow transmission by way of remote observation to individual members of the public via a CVP link, subject to the following requirements No person may receive the transmission of the proceedings unless they are within the United Kingdom. No person outside the United Kingdom may join the CVP link to watch or listen to the proceedings. Any person who wants to watch or listen to the hearing via the CVP link provided by HMCTS, must

i. identify themselves to the tribunal in writing (by email) by providing their full name, home address and email address before they are admitted to the CVP room.

ii. conduct themselves appropriately, and in accordance with the tribunal’s directions, during the transmission.

No person in receipt of the transmission is permitted to record the proceedings in any format, whether by way of audio recording, visual recording, screen shot or otherwise.

Any person who wants to watch or listen to the hearing via the CVP link provided by HMCTS must indicate in writing that they understand and will comply with the requirements at a-c above before they are admitted to the CVP room.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 09/09/2022 11:08

That's what i thought, @SpottyBumPony

I wonder if that's always Judge Griffin's stance, or she thought 'aye aye, i'm not having this' from Allison's tribunal??

Did they get back to you relatively quickly Spotty? I've only just send a request and wondering how long I might be waiting?

Olderbadger1 · 09/09/2022 11:10

Seems TT are still waiting for permission to live tweet - anyone getting any updates?

NotBadConsidering · 09/09/2022 11:12

I still find it amazing that a lobby group whose purported reason for existence is to support “trans kids” has also decided to add “police gay and lesbian charities” to its manifesto. Even if they don’t agree with LGBA, why do those at Mermaids think it’s their job to challenge them?😵‍💫

Ameanstreakamilewide · 09/09/2022 11:12

I've still got the 'waiting for the conference host to join' message...

SpottyBumPony · 09/09/2022 11:14

Quick to get the directive, I've only just replied so now sure how long now

Because the existence of a small child pointing at the naked Emperor threatens everything.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 09/09/2022 11:15

Touché, Arabella!

Well that sounds like a recipe for chaos, and a big gravy train for lawyers. None of this is conducive to a healthy civil society.

nauticant · 09/09/2022 11:21

Close the tab/window and keep trying again Ameanstreakamilewide. Or better still, try another browser, I was stuck on "waiting for ..." in Chrome but went straight in on Firefox.

ArabellaScott · 09/09/2022 11:21

I'd have thought the existing rules about charities' operations (as opposed to NGOs) would have encompassed this type of ideological clash. Somehow.

Gubu · 09/09/2022 11:24

Frustrating rather no one outside the UK can watch. My brain doesn't compute Twitter so while I find TT's work impressive, I find it too difficult to follow.

dworky · 09/09/2022 11:26

Could someone pm the code, please? Have officially requested but no response.

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 09/09/2022 11:27

nauticant · 09/09/2022 09:55

Correction: the hearing will be streamed over a video platform, CVP.

Will you be allowed to join this time I wonder?

ArabellaScott · 09/09/2022 11:29

Tribunaltweets still not got permission, by the look of it.
