I'm a bit 'meh, should be a woman' but on the other hand he's not just responsible for the woman bit and he has made vaguely sensible noises about gender issues when he was Education secretary

Caroline Nokes tutting about the erasure of women! LOL!

She is on to something though. Why did they remove "women" from the title and why is the word woman/women "suddenly" no longer important?

Bit rich coming from her.

JacquelinePot · 07/09/2022 17:18

Agree with this tweeter: "Caroline you've been busy erasing women from the word woman, from their own spaces and sports and from consideration by the Women & Equalities Committee. Pipe down."

I'd rather see a man in role who is sensible on women's rights, than a woman who thinks men are the only people who have a right to call themselves women

I think this is fine. He definitely gets it and the free speech/cancel culture link too, especially after he was 'chanted at' (when visiting the Conservative Association at Warwick University) by a group including offspring of a prominent Labour MP. He has a daughter whose rights he no doubt cares deeply about.

He was the one who tried to change things in the DfE wasn't he?

I guess he wasn't in the job for long enough to get anything done, but he did get involved this July:

Nice if he would support the abolish leasehold campaign. Nope - because he and his family continue to make ££££££ out of others’ misery.

So, I don’t give a damned which portfolio he has.

And she's blocking anyone on Twitter who points out that irony!

Article in the Guardian, it appears 'women' has been dropped from the job title. It's a bit of a cheek the three people complaining, probably as recently as yesterday, couldn't be counted on to know what a woman was, Nokes, Dodds and some bod from the Fawcett Society. And, by tomorrow, they'll probably have forgotten again.

Someone however who will remind, hopefully firmly, that there are nine characteristics, not just one, and that 'women' includes the equality and access of the female ones.

I think he's been pretty good around issues relating both to women, and to antisemitism (two issues close to my heart for obvious reasons). He's spoken out against antisemitism in the NUS and has spoken from the heart about his visits to Auschwitz. As a Jewish woman (albeit not a Tory voter) I feel quite reassured by most of what he has said.
