They've scrapped the role

Rather than appoint a woman they're just scrapping it

I'd like to see evidence of the threats and abuse. I didn't see any in any of the responses to the news of his appointment on Twitter or elsewhere.

Typical that they just dump the role now, what a surprise. Somewhat telling ...

It'll be interesting to see what his next job is and who gives it to him.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 06/09/2022 12:47

Lily livered toe rags…. “abuse and threats” . Ffs.I bet they haven’t had 1% of the threats and abuse that are daily occurrences for the anti trans activists.

And I’m not even going to go into scrapping the role. That isn’t at all a logical decision, nor was the appointment of a male, but by the way that working group seems to be captured I’m not surprised

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 06/09/2022 12:48

He’ll have been moved diagonally upwards if it’s anything like the Local Authority I worked for.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/09/2022 12:51

Either it was important in which case why isn’t the role needed now, or it was never necessary in the first place

either way, the Tayside period dignity working group have made themselves look like twats

FOJN · 06/09/2022 12:52

We'll axe the job before we appoint a woman as "Period Dignity Officer". FFS I wish the powers that be would stop having a tantrum whenever women tell them they are being absurd.

Plexie · 06/09/2022 12:55

Won't they have had to pay him compensation to leave? He's lost his job through no fault of his own, so would be due compensation for loss of salary. Perhaps they can't afford that and pay someone else a salary.

latetothefisting · 06/09/2022 12:55

Scraping the barrel but I suppose from a legal POV having appointed him they would be on very dodgy ground sacking him on the basis of his sex so they were very limited in what they could do after the backlash.

only thing worse than just ending the role would be to sack him, appoint a woman, and then he sue them or go through employment tribunal for discrimination (and let's face it probably win) and the Council have to pay out a fortune. As much as might teach those responsible a lesson (although let's face it they probably will never take any accountability) realistically the people most affected would be the poor and vulnerable on which the money could be better spent.

Doesn't mean it wasn't an ridiculous idea to appoint him in the first place though.

If the role no longer exists, he would be classed as redundant, surely, and therefore entitled to redundancy pay as per his contract and/or statutory requirements - if they are unable to redeploy him, of course.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 06/09/2022 13:00

All the funding wasted instead of just giving the job to a woman.

Also wouldn't want some random bloke mansplaining to me about the fucking menopause.

He was best for the job apparently.
The best to talk to teenage girls about periods.
A man.

You are entitled to redundancy after 2 years. If he is a new employee then entitled to nothing

ArabellaScott · 06/09/2022 13:02

Well, that was an utter shitshow and waste of everyone's time and money, wasn't it?

That would depend on his contract - it's not unusual for contractual redundancy to be more generous than the law requires.

I was surprised about the inclusion of menopause in the role.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 06/09/2022 13:06

I’d have had so much respect if they were honest and said that after reflection he wasn’t “the strongest candidate for the job” and that they’d look into their processes.

i wonder why they actually did scrap the role. Could there have been a legal challenge? I guess the negative publicity was a problem for the Council and the group were told just to shut the whole thing down.

IcakethereforeIam · 06/09/2022 13:07

I'm sure there was an allegation (possibly on Glinner's substack), that there was a cosy history between random man and a person responsible for the appointment. I don't recall the allegation being repeated, so it may be baseless. Otherwise, would be very dodgy. I'm sure there's nothing to it and it has absolutely nothing to do with the post being scrapped.

Scrapped before the Freedom of Information request into the circumstances of the appointment gets answered, I suspect.

Astonishingly uncritical reporting here.

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/09/2022 13:09

Well it was always gonna be partly a waste of time.

Access to sanpro is only one of several reasons why girls don't attend school on their periods. And Scotland have no Interest in being honest about who even has periods let alone address reasons such as girls having their dignity and privacy to deal with periods removed at school.

Even if this guy had appeared to care about actual girls as opposed to being more interested in how things affect the men in the family/all genders, hed have found himself up against barriers that would not be acknowledged.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 06/09/2022 13:14

Well, I'm glad. One, because a man in that role was utterly ridiculous. Two, because scrapping it shows the role wasn't essential anyway. As an ex-teacher I have sat and watched a lot of happy clappy, sparkly special external speakers in schools and they are almost always shit. I imagine this guy's workshops would have been more of the same, and frankly I doubt anyone is missing out. Get some nurses, teachers and a few bright school pupils together for a week to put together a period info booklet, print a million of the things and give them to every school girl with a free pair of period pants. Job done.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/09/2022 13:18

Checking the original press release, chappie was seconded for 24 months from his role as as Student Wellbeing Officer at Dundee and Angus College

so I expect he’s just slipped back in there, no harm, no foul

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 06/09/2022 13:20

So if a man cant do it, it doesn't need to be done. Great messaging there.

BaileySharp · 06/09/2022 13:24

I'm not sure why a man even applied for this tbh. I'd think it was really weird if any man I know wanted a job about periods

How embarrassing for everyone involved. Infuriating.

littlbrowndog · 06/09/2022 13:41

Just said on bbc Scotland that the role was dropped by the group because of threats and abuse

ofgs. Mince.

IcakethereforeIam · 06/09/2022 13:43

They always say that, but they never give evidence. They might as well say he quit to spend more time with his family.

ArabellaScott · 06/09/2022 13:46

'threats and abuse' has become the stock phrase to get out of a fix, hasn't it? It's not good - in fact it's dangerous, because it then innures people to ACTUAL threats and abuse. Does nobody read fairy stories anymore? The boy who cried wolf, the emperor's new clothes - it's all there.

I mean, if Jason actually got threats and abuse then that's shocking, of course, and wrong. But I haven't seen any, only a lot of very, very angry women saying 'FFS'.
