I'm impressed by how many TRAs have already read a 1000 page book that only came out a couple of days ago, by an author they despise...

I mean on the positive side it alerted me to the fact that the book is out so I can go and buy it....

I'm enjoying it immensely. She's very good at pointing up the idiocies of social media. And it's a cracking yarn to boot.

Surely the Guardian should have something to say about one of their “journalists” deliberately tweeting lies, not once but twice. How could any of their readers believe anything they write?

One of the bizarrest things about the lie is that it falsely claims JKR tweeted contradicting a quote saying “no one should live in a closet”.

The full quote is “if Harry Potter taught us anything it’s that no one should live in a closet”.

The person that quote comes from is JKRowling.

A recent tweet posted by KEBrightbill featured an old screenshot of a fake tweet purportedly by me, which has been circulating for some years despite being thoroughly debunked as a fabrication.
On this occasion I have found it necessary to make it clear that the screenshotted tweet was not posted by me, because the accompanying thread about it by KEBrightbill was both false and damaging.

Kathryn Brightbill has now removed the tweet.

Has not read the fictional [a made up story with made up characters who take part in made up events] story has no intention of reading the story.

Has determined a opinion position from "screenshots" and other peoples second hand accounts.

Has determined that it would be good publicity to tweet and display how a guest editor for a newspaper goes on a fact finding mission😬

The funny thing is that the murdered character in The Ink Black Heart (I don't think I'm giving anything away here) has been the subject of a targeted hate campaign including accusations of ableism, homophobia, racism etc. JKR is very good at capturing the self-righteous tone of tweets that accuse people of heinous crimes for entirely ludicrous reasons.

Enjoying it so far, but get a hard copy not the Kindle version, unless you want to spend the next week patiently enlarging its 'online chat' pages, one screen at a time.

I should think the nastier characters in this book pretty much wrote themselves.

The critics rail away about her narcissism, her ignorance, her refusal to listen. But this book makes it clear that they’re badly mistaken: she has always been listening. Not with the empty-headed deference of the obsequious ally, but in the way that all good storytellers do, as a fly on the wall of the discourse, a keen observer of human affairs. And it is this — not her fame, not her money, but her ability to imagine an internet troll in all his sharp-edged human complexity — that ultimately makes Rowling uncancellable. Thanks for the link to that review, RedToothBrush. It draws an interesting parallel between the nutcases trying to stymie the Harry Potter books because of religion and those doing so against her latest books (in the name of the new gender-identity faith).

Damn it, I wasn’t going to buy the new book till the price came down but when I read in that Unherd article that TRAs are trying to spoil it for readers by posting the killer on Twitter I had to get it at once.

The weirdos are super mad about this because they think the character is a self-insert.

I don’t think she is - certainly she’s not a very flattering self-insert!! - but I also don’t see why they are so mad about it. They don’t really explain why they think it’s a bad thing.

I think they believe women should tolerate abuse uncomplainingly, but also don’t want to admit they think this.

Omg I went into that Twitter thread and followed some links and I can’t get over how much they all sound like the book. She got the tone down perfectly. No wonder they’re so angry.
