Seriously Wimbledon High School? You can’t find a better role model for your girls to talk about diversity and inclusion than a bloke parodying a woman? Infuriating. Would have loved to see a truly inspiring gay woman speak instead.

What a bunch of Cupid Stunts.

TescoMealDea · 29/08/2022 19:27

What a bunch of bigots.

Truthlikeness · 29/08/2022 19:42

Lesbians aren't part of Pride anymore. Didn't you get the memo?

Motorina · 29/08/2022 20:37

So the values this school want their girls to learn are:

  1. Glamour
  2. Fashion
  3. Baking
  4. Being beautiful

All to the soundtrack of boy rescues girl love songs

How ... radical

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/08/2022 20:41

It's a girls' school. Surely it's of more immediate relevance to pupils to focus on the L and the female B in LGB for Pride?

Could they not even have got a female drag king or "bio-queen" like Victoria Scone in?

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/08/2022 20:49

She gave a fantastic performance of Alladin's 'A Whole New World' and had the girls singing along. There was a Pride Fashion Show where girls had a chance to walk the catwalk in their Pride colours, and of course Sixth Formers had a fun time with the annual Pride Bake Off

Singing, fashion and baking? Has girls' education taken a nosedive into regressive gender norms recently?

Yup. That's how you know they're girls, duh.

If they were picking their noses and farting* you'd know they were boys. Even the vagina'd ones.

(*And adjusting their socks, MrsP, obviously.)

ScrollingLeaves · 29/08/2022 22:03

This is a poor advertisement for the school as a place where much thinking goes on.

Vargas · 29/08/2022 22:05

This is so depressing, a man acting out a sexualised version of a woman is seen as some kind of role model in a GIRLS' school. What next? Some pole dancers and porn stars? Ffs

MMBaranova · 29/08/2022 22:11

I thought GDST was being sensible about 'this'.

It buggers belief (delib) to have a single sex school where a parody comes in for a singalong.

Igmum · 30/08/2022 06:48

It beggars belief that they want to restrict girls' horizons in this way. Appalling

Clymene · 30/08/2022 07:13

Parents are paying £20,000+ annual fees for their girls to be force fed offensive female stereotypes by a man dressed in the trans flag. How progressive

ScrollingLeaves · 30/08/2022 07:14

They are supposed to teach critical thinking at GDST schools, but this shows a thoughtless ‘handmaiden’ following of a very successful, men’s, ad campaign.

ScrollingLeaves · 30/08/2022 07:26

”How do you recognise a GDST girl?”

Is the answer that you’ll recognise her because, ‘She’ll be a man in a green sequinned dress, long hair wig, inflated fake breasts and lots of makeup?’

Will you ‘recognise it in her spirit’ because she is too dumb to avoid following an ideology imported from America by TQ?

m.youtube.com/watch?v=ksrJLW9U3sw

If I were GDST, I’d be worried by the harm this event does to the GDST. Many parents who send their girls to these schools cannot afford it easily and make great sacrifices to do so.

SouthernFashionista · 30/08/2022 08:53

Agreed. It’s very revealing of their ethos and approach. Utterly depressing.

The spelling and grammar on that page 😱 misses the point

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 31/08/2022 07:05

As a parent there I would be eye rolling at this. Thank goodness DD is older and more sensible.

The only good news is when the grown ups adopt things like this it really stops being cool.

ArabellaScott · 31/08/2022 11:42

Ah, come on you bunch of spoilsports. I'm sure Nathan will be able to teach the girls all about inclusion and diversity.

You all need to chill out for a minute. It was one day and in no way depicts the whole school’s attitude to girls education. It was literally just for fun, and what a lot of you are effectively saying is just because we’re girls we shouldn’t sing and bake and do stupid little fashion shows. You’re taking one event and assuming it reflects the whole school experience. Spoiler.. it doesn’t we also do shit like carpentry and rugby and other traditionally guy and of course actual classes and that stuff is compulsory all of this was optional, only about 60 of 700 kids were there. And for all of you saying we should’ve had a gay women come into speak to us… we have. I’m not saying the school is at all perfect or anything it definitely has it’s issues but I am saying you shouldn’t judge it for one half an hour talk that was literally just for fun. - a lesbian whs student

Birdsweepsin · 07/12/2022 17:02

Good to see you defending WH-definitelyhasitsissues-S @iexist648395

And you are right to point out that one half-hour talk doesn't represent the whole school ethos.

But what we previous posters are pointing out, I think, is that this is one jigsaw piece in a bigger puzzle of something insidious. Drag is becoming ubiquitous and is accepted unproblematically, even though 1. Womanface, 2. Stereotypes of make-up, glitter, glam and 3. Crude misogyny

This one incident may well be "fine" on the surface.

But ask yourself why you, a lesbian, felt the need to defend this man and his 'performance'

Itsoktogiveup · 07/12/2022 17:37

There’s nothing diverse about a man mansplaining womanhood to women.

Beanie567 · 07/12/2022 17:58

Oh wow, that’s terrible on the part of Wimbledon High School! What were they thinking?!

tedgran · 07/12/2022 18:17

God, my DD went to Putney many years ago, I would have even furious if this had happened. There are plenty of role models fo girls out there, they don't need to see pretend women
