GIDS - a timeline?

Is there any sort of timeline for the years before the closure of GIDS announcement was made, that is publicly available, and shows things like when service user panels and external charities / bodies became involved?

The best person to ask would most likely be Stephanie Davies-Arai.

That's a fascinating question. I was recently researching details of the individuals / groups who cynically targeted vulnerable children in care with training packages and all manner of "policies" designed to destabilise and persuade them they were born in the wrong body. There seemed to be gaps on google. It occurred to me that many of the self invested adults who led this will, in the light of Cass, be currently erasing all records of their involvement with children, institutions and schools.
We know that GIDs record keeping is abysmal and I suspect that they won't be keen on any more joining up of the dots.

I am asking because I am noticing similarities with other services... and so I wanted to map out where GIDS were a few years ago, and where those services are at now (and a few months ago).

Pretty much the same things are happening with regards to external influence, people not declaring interests, very shoddy research being done and shared, and services taking away holistic approaches at the "opinion" of a few based on some "celebrities in the field" and charities which are already imbedded within the NHS.

It's really extremely worrying how far down the same route that services already seem to be. And yes, vulnerable people are still being targeted via this.

Yes, it is so much easier to cover your tracks in the digital age.

Gidsy · 25/08/2022 20:47

I will get in touch with Stephanie, thank you!

@IvyTwines scary isn't it. Although I do understand that there are regular server back ups occur routinely throughout the NHS so that is one point that makes it more difficult.

Tavistock Troubles Timeline from The Telegraph.

Other papers have published similar timelines that are more or less detailed. Daily Mail was one IIRC.

It’s a really good idea and would be great to put it all together. That Telegraph timeline is basic. There’s the other media articles by the Observer, the Newsnight broadcast, the Sonia Appleby case, the timeline of the study that was started in 2011, declared not available for the Keira Bell court hearing but published just a few weeks after, the dates of when it was discussed in Parliament, and so on.

If someone had the time and inclination it would amazing. It is part of the biggest worldwide medical scandal of our time. I bet if the timeline is compared to the timeline of the practice of lobotomy, they will be very similar.

Gidsy · 26/08/2022 12:50

Oh, I am going to make time purely because I believe there's other NHS services going down the same route and currently have their heads in the sands and it's already destroying services for some of their patients...

It's absolutely nuts how easy it is for people to infiltrate NHS clinics running services for vulnerable patients...

Not just NHS clinics but schools, Ofsted, the media, social care, the government - bloody everywhere.

I remember reading and hearing about various changes in the Tavi's outlook over the years, driven by certain interested clinicians and patient groups and given licence by weak leadership. IIRC it was around the time of Keira's appeal. Might be worth finding some of the old threads on here, maybe ones on the Newsnight programmes.
