Absolute shocker of an “article” in the Metro about transphobic hate crimes.
Metro claim to adhere to the IPSO Editors’ Code of Practise. They identify as doing so, at least, which might explain how that piece came to be published; because it breaches the accuracy clause multiple times.
The Press, while free to editorialise and campaign, must distinguish clearly between comment, conjecture and fact.
Metro seem to have ignored the second half of that sentence. The entire premise of the article is false: the author was - allegedly - loudly & publicly misgendered 13 years ago, an experience that was doubtless unpleasant, but in no way makes them the victim of a hate crime. The author claims the murder of a trans woman as a transphobic hate crime (& has done so in other articles) despite Metro’s editors surely being aware that is untrue (NB that’s only one of the articles from the Metro that characterise what happened accurately).
Should anyone wish to complain about the apparent utter disregard for accuracy & honesty, IPSO have an online form for doing so…
