Do they they not know that she had a death threat made against her? I suppose they think only threats against male authors are important.

Picture is from the latest issue.

This DM article below specifically calls for an end to pacifism when dealing with TRAs in her name.

In what sense? You've obviously read the article. It looks to me as if it's about "the Culture Wars" in general.

It literally names trans rights in the next sentence.

Banderita · 24/08/2022 13:53

It's not her fault that the Daily Mail take every tweet she makes or likes and use it to push their anti-trans agenda

The Daily Mail don't have an "anti-trans" agenda, they have a pro-women's rights agenda.

bellinisurge · 24/08/2022 13:58

Let them make the point. Although it's rather sloppy thinking on their part.

To say "what about death threats against JKR" is not transphobic. Unless you think that saying anything remotely supportive of JKR is transphobic. Which is sloppy thinking.

It's a bit disappointing that Private Eye has flopped into sloppy thinking on this but I suppose they can't be sharp and fearless about everything.

pollyhemlock · 24/08/2022 15:16

JKR tweeted support for Rushdie. As did many other writers. She then received a death threat which she highlighted and reported on Twitter. Joanne Harris then posted her ridiculous disingenuous ‘poll’ about death threats which was clearly a dig at JKR. So it really wasn’t JKR who made this about trans rights. It was the trans rights lobby. I would imagine that’s what PE mean. Unfortunately some of the TRA lobby on Twitter seem to have interpreted it differently.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/08/2022 15:22

So it really wasn’t JKR who made this about trans rights. It was the trans rights lobby.

Indeed.

JKR knows that she only has to like a tweet and the right wing media will jump on it and make it about trans rights.

IcakethereforeIam · 24/08/2022 15:46

In this instance the right wing media didn't get the chance, the tras got there first. The rw media may have got there eventually.

@thekooples I'm sure you didn't mean to but that comes across a bit victim blamey.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2022 15:49

JKR knows that she only has to like a tweet and the right wing media will jump on it and make it about trans rights.

Really? So what do you suggest, that she never tweets or likes a tweet ever again? Hmm

You're both incorrect.

The Daily Mail has a selling-newspapers-agenda and a get-you-all-clicking-agenda.

JKR knows that she only has to like a tweet and the right wing media will jump on it and make it about trans rights.

I know that, she knows that and you know that.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2022 15:59

And?

IcakethereforeIam · 24/08/2022 15:59

Does she know that you know that?

Exactly. The Daily Mail writes what it knows will appeal to its core readers. And, in the absence of "Commie Corbyn ran over my dog", they revert to their "war on woke".

How anyone could think that an agenda of the daily mail is "being pro women's rights" is beyond me.

SpinCityBlues · 24/08/2022 16:03

Private Eye's kind of satire is, Killer asteroid hurtling inexorably towards earth! JK Rowling tweets farewell and trans rights committee meets to discuss implications of tweet.

Clymene · 24/08/2022 16:04

It's not having a pop at JKR nor is it anything to do with the daily mail. It's to do with that odious woman Joanne Harris.

TambourineOfRepentance · 24/08/2022 16:05

IcakethereforeIam · 24/08/2022 15:59

Does she know that you know that?

Don't be silly.
We all know that she knows that they know that. The really important question is whether she knows that we know that she knows they know that she knows.

This

Well to be fair, maybe there's a corner of it that is, the one that features articles by Julie Bindel and Suzanne Moore and even a newly-invigorated Sarah Vine, and many others actually these days since they got hounded out of other papers by a bunch of misogynists.

The rest of it is a money-making machine and political sausage factory, yes.

Totalcredence · 24/08/2022 16:11

You appear to be going down the "X can be both A and B at the same time" route with that post SpinCityBlues.

That level of nuance just doesn't work with trans activists, they like "if X is A then is cannot be B". Which, ironically, is a rather binary way of looking at the world.

WandaWomblesaurus · 24/08/2022 18:40

JKR didn't make it into a trans issue.
The Daily Mail didn't make it into a trans issue.
The Transactivist Twitter mob turned it into a trans are the most oppressed ever ever ever issue.

what do you suggest she do about it?

Hope she is!
