Robin Harper, former leader of the Scottish Greens, and Joanna Cheery have written a joint letter to Jason Leach, SG's clinical director about Scottish gender services:

I hoped they would publish the letter but I can't see it.

He taught me! I see him around occasionally. Lovely man. Very well liked and respected by pupils.

Excellent news. He was Rector at Edinburgh when I was there. A good, thoughtful, caring man and very well respected. Well done to them both.

Brave of Harper to come out with this especially since the current leader of his party is on record in the last few weeks as saying people who don’t believe in ladycocks should be expelled from the party.

Yep. He must despair of the Scottish Greens at the moment.

God he's brave. How long before his students turn on him?

Namechangeforthis88 · 15/08/2022 19:18

He isn't a teacher any more, don't know if he is still associated with the University.

Mochudubh · 15/08/2022 20:00

Unfortunately, it's not just Edinburgh.

www.abdn.ac.uk/staffnet/documents/policy-zone-employment/TransgenderPolicy.pdf

1.3 The University is committed to providing a supportive environment for trans staff and students, including working to provide appropriate facilities for trans student and staff groups, including use of preferred changing and toilet facilities.

2.9 In providing accommodation for students, any concerns or issues raised will be handled by the Staff and Student Accommodation Offices and will be treated fairly and in line with our obligations under equality legislation. All students will be supported in accessing the facilities, which align with their gender identity.

5.11 Will I still be able to go on field trips and placements?
Where field trips are a part of course requirements and shared accommodation is offered, all students have the right to use facilities that align with their self-declared gender.

I'm very heartened to see this. And wistful remembering how the Scottish Greens used to be under Robin Harper.

BlackForestCake · 15/08/2022 20:12

Oddly enough, although the Scottish Greens technically have two male and female “co-convenors” rather than a “leader” as I said above, this has done nothing to stop them becoming the most misogynistic party in Scotland.
