Apologies if a missed a thread about this ; I couldn't see one.

And it bears repeating anyway.

Women's biology is entirely different to men - in this case regarding anal sex whereby there is a higher risk of injury and permanent damage.

And clearly reflects a the impact of freely available hard core, male oriented, abusive anal porn on society.

Yeah I read that. Interesting. A bit horrifying to me though a know there are a lot of women who say they do like anal sex. Never did jack shit for me so I can only be glad that better medical information is being published.

Twawmyarse · 14/08/2022 21:01

There is a thread running about this atm - il try to link it.

Twawmyarse · 14/08/2022 21:05

I'm sorry, I've no idea how to create a link, the title is "Porn culture has led to women suffering injuries during sex" so put that in the search engine!

Yalz · 14/08/2022 21:07

There's a long thread on AIBU (858 posts and counting) about it.

It says many doctors don't want to talk to women about anal sex because they don't want to seem judgemental or homophobic.

I'm trying to work out what would be homophobic about it.

PermanentTemporary · 15/08/2022 07:30

I suppose if you don't want to do anal aex because you find the idea disgusting, you could feel you would sound like some homophobes do.

Thanks for link, I rarely go to aibu

Good discussion there.

The bare facts are that women have different bodies

And anal is a known massive trend in porn; definitely dominant. Especially as, I'm sure they know, it harms women.

Call me vanilla, but I don't understand the rationale of anal, given that women have an organ specifically for receiving a penis. It makes sense for gay men.

Is the reason men want anal with women purely about pushing boundaries and getting turned on by inappropriate sexual activities? Does that make man-on-woman anal a kink?

PrimAndProperViperish · 15/08/2022 12:42

Some women enjoy the sensation.

RoyalCorgi · 15/08/2022 12:47

What the Guardian runs up against in reporting a story like this is that, as the OP says, sex matters. Otherwise they'd have to write the whole article using phrases like "people with vaginas" and "people with penises" and it would be unreadable.

Abitofalark · 15/08/2022 13:42

You'd never guess from the thread titles what this is about. Perhaps because of a mumsnet prohibition on certain words. I did see that thread title on AIBU recently but didn't open it. Good that the doctors are speaking out and that the BMJ has published an article.

One of the reasons for the trend is not just pornography but the influence of popular culture and magazines for women and girls which school women and girls in sexual practices and methods.
These are put across as informative but that doesn't mean they don't have an agenda - money making and/or following an ideology of sexologists for adventurousness in sex, pushing boundaries and seeking thrills in case you might become jaded with sex, which panders, unknowingly or deliberately, to a male-driven agenda which is harmful to women and girls. The spirit of the age, summed up as directed at women and girls but not woman- or girl- centred.

How are you defining 'women' here? Just to be clear.

It's not a subject I know much about but is part of it that some men and boys want to shag a woman with no risk of pregnancy (now dna tests make evading responsibility a bit less easy) and don't much care about the girl or woman's enjoyment or wellbeing?

WarriorN · 15/08/2022 20:50

No, my fault. I read it on Sunday and was actually stunned it had been out on Thursday in the guardian. Sounded more like an observer one.

You are right though, the thread title should have been clearer as it's an important topic.

This - I've come to realise that the teenage magazines I grew up with (More, J17, Mizz et al) which seemed harmless enough at the time, were actually tools of grooming by normalising underage sex and pushing a male-centred agenda about his wants and needs by pretending to be 'informative'.

By the time pornography became freely available over the internet, we were still those good little girls, taught to override our inner feelings and reservations to demonstrate how 'mature' and 'sex positive' we were....
