Not sure if this has already been posted, but Swim England has a consultation out for members on its trans policy. Closes midnight on 9th August.

It’s not just restricted to members - it’s being shared on SM by non-members in an effort to bolster trans support.

It has been posted. Word of warning, there is one question which is rather misleading, it asks if you want Male or Female divisions - fair enough you'd think but they are talking about identifying as, not Sex. If you're doing this quickly it would be easy to miss this, the correct answer (if you want to protect Women's Sports) is Open and Female.

It has been posted but worth posting again, thanks OP..

Ah, I missed it previously.

What a crock, no need to be a member, or add an email address and loaded answers. Whatever the results are of this they are not worth the paper they are written on.

Dreikanter · 08/08/2022 16:32

It looks like a tick box exercise.

I’d hope that they’re going to follow the lead from FINA (as SGB) and the SCEG on prioritising fairness over inclusivity (since “inclusive” now only seems to mean that the female category makes room for males, it’s never the male category being inclusive of gender non-conforming males).

Bump

donquixotedelamancha · 08/08/2022 17:16

Bumping because this is really important. Please, please fill it in. It's very short

The main question is whether to allow self-ID male and female categories or to have female and open categories based on sex. I think everyone knows which is fair.

BogdashinaO · 08/08/2022 17:20

Done.

I wish I felt comfortable sharing with my DC who have all swum competitively. They bristle at my 'old-fashioned' views and I can't face the argument again today.

IcakethereforeIam · 08/08/2022 17:41

You seem to be able to complete it more than once.

FrippEnos · 08/08/2022 17:53

The set up of this seems to be common with groups that have already decided what they are going to do.

But it would be silly of swim England to do something other than go along with what FINA have set and other groups have followed.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/08/2022 17:56

Done.

I shared it with my mid twenties ex-competitive swimmer DC - who fortunately thinks that males swimming in the female category is ridiculous and unfair.

tilder · 08/08/2022 22:11

That's a weird one. No control on who completes it or how many times. The results won't be particularly robust.

rabbitwoman · 08/08/2022 22:23

Yaaaas, those are going to be typically rhubarb results, aren't they? I filled it in.

I hope it's been screenshot and the huge failings of this survey can be referred to if need be in future.....

waterwitch · 08/08/2022 22:23

Just checked Swim England website, and there is no mention of this survey - plus, would they really use surveymonkey?
Might be worth a more thorough check on this?

Riverlee · 08/08/2022 22:24

Bump as deadline is getting close

rabbitwoman · 08/08/2022 22:27

No mention whatever on Sharron Davies' twitter feed?

Maybe you have a point, Waterwitch.....

Its definitely real. At least the one I had emailed to me and my DS directly from Swim England was. That was an interesting conversation to have with my 12 year old competitive swimmer.

chinook · 08/08/2022 22:34

It’s definitely genuine. I have two dc’s who swim competitively so we are all Swim England members. All three of us received the survey last week as part of the monthly newsletter.

Circumferences · 08/08/2022 22:45

Yeah that's a bit cheeky.
You need to read the small print to understand that Swim England call two categories "male" and "female" but they actually mean mixed-sex for both categories.

Q5 is worded so awfully tbh. It's a crock.

BoredofthisCrap7 · 08/08/2022 23:34
TopKnotch · 08/08/2022 23:39

It's a really badly worded and unclear survey

BugsInTheBed · 08/08/2022 23:43

Yes i imagine many people will tick "male and female" thinking it means separate sexes.
