I can't see a thread about this but conservative and Republican Kansas has voted to keep the right to abortion up to 22 weeks.

Voters in Kansas have soundly rejected an amendment to ban abortion in the state in what is the first electoral test of the public mood since the overturning of Roe v Wade

Thanks - I'd seen this in the New York Times but couldn't link to it. The photo was of anti-abortion rights campaigners looking sour.

Like many people, I am surprised that this happened first in Kansas. And also delighted. It is more likely to be taken seriously coming from what is seen as a conservative state.

achillestoes · 04/08/2022 07:17

I’m not surprised at all. 50% of voters are women. Abortion rights are popular in the US - most people are pro-choice.

Good news.

Brilliant news for the women of Kansas and perhaps neighbouring states too.

I saw this on the BBC website - brilliant news

This is so important. It shows that many people in the US are willing to be reasonable on what is a very sensitive subject.

Abhannmor · 04/08/2022 11:02

A handsome win too 59% in favour.
Bodes well for the other states.

True, important to remember people can, and do, make good choices when exposed to proper debate😊

Very promising, I hope

In the US at the moment.A few extremist Republican candidates trying to roll back their positions to be more equivocal in respect of rape and health of the mother.
