Unchallenging Woman’s Hour

Listening today it seems that WH has not seen/acknowledged any of the commentary in the last few weeks. First we have more about girls football, without any comments about how for the under 19s males can play in girls teams, unlike in Rugby. This despite girls clearly want to play in single sex teams.
then an item about music and young women singers. The interviewees were so keen to promote inclusion for non binary, many gendered and trans people that the topic on women was hardly mentioned. This whole narrative was not challenged. It might have been interesting to hear her define non binary or explain the many genders idea.

I thought that too. So many missed opportunities for the presenter to challenge or explore the issues with the guests. The DJ woman might as well have said TWAW. I was shouting at the radio how does it help women to have a 'diversity clause' in your contract requiring that there also be transwomen or non binaries on the bill? But the presenter is holiday cover I think. Jessica someone? She's been on before and I remember she was pretty feeble.

I sent in 3 emails in quick succession but I don’t think anybody reads them!

It's the editorial policy, innit?

Didn't at least one of the regular presenters resign so that could speak their truth?

I don't know how a serious journalist can continue to front that programme. It is meaningless twaddle.

Just looked up the dj who was a guest. Jaguar Bingham. ' From West Stafford , Dorset and Alderney in the Channel Islands. Attended a boarding school in Hampshire from the age of 10'

She presents a dance show on Radio 1. Sounds like she had an awful struggle to be included in the BBC glee club.

I heard WH this morning (only because I was driving - I never listen otherwise any more). It really was a waste of time: dull, unchallenging journalism. Very poor show R4.

TheBiologyStupid · 03/08/2022 17:22

Yup, not a great episode today - lots of "women and pregnant people" in the discussion about abortion rights before the football segment, too.

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 03/08/2022 17:24

I turned off when the DJ was so keen to promote trans and non binary to increase diversity 🙄

I actually think that most people would just hear all that twaddle this morning and roll their eyes before switching over.

Before Maya and Allison (and maybe Nolan too) pushed back the boundaries and let the sunlight flood in there might have been a number of people who thought that maybe they were the ones who were out of step with modern thinking, or missing something. Now that nonsense just sounds laughable.
