Think Twice Before Donating to LLLI this Year
It's not the same place many of us learned to love for over 6 decades.

@ScreechingEchoChamber
Would a GP prescribe…?

No I don’t think so. Or at least not routinely. There are occasional discussions in a GP group I’m in about prescribing Domperidone to women who need help establishing milk supply and for a variety of reasons I would say a good 2/3+ say no so I think even higher proportion would say no to a male. Having said that a certain Dr Harrop practices as a GP and there are others who are on the gender prescribing train so I’m sure there’s some.

Thanks, Faffertea. I had the impression GPs were reluctant to prescribe it anyway, so it seems highly unlikely to me that any doctor in the UK would prescribe for a male, but I suppose you're right.

They are dropping 'womanly' from the title of the book. It will be called The Art of Breastfeeding. It's confirmed with the publisher:

I filled in that LLL survey for LLL GB and said womanly should be kept. I saw no summary of the results - does anyone know where to find it?

I then left, and have recently had a survey about why. I felt I could be honest as it was anonymous, so I mentioned mixed sex spaces and the risks of women self excluding and the unknown risks for babies of induced lactation in men who identify as women.

I haven’t found any other UK breastfeeding support organisation to join, I think there’s definitely a space for a single sex option. Though I agree that individual LLL GB groups are continuing to provide fantastic support to women.

I have not seen any results from the survey. That doesn’t surprise me because the board is in no way transparent. Sometimes they send a survey to Leaders and we see the results, but they ignore them. This is what happened with the change in the title from The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding to The Art of Breastfeeding. This will be the new title of their best selling book when the new version is released. Many Leaders vocally opposed this. As a matter fact the majority of LLL Leaders surveyed oppose this change, but the board once again ignore the will of those who are helping mothers to breastfeed.

The board needs to explain themselves.

Interloper7 · 23/08/2022 07:24

You haven't seen the results of the survey but you know how the majority of Leaders responded? So interesting. The results were shared to all LLL Leaders with a rationale for the title change. If you missed it, ask your administrators or the LLLI Board for a link.

Sorry. You misunderstood me. There were two surveys. One was about the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding which I did see the results from and the other I was referring to was about why Leaders are leaving the organization. I was referring to both of those in my comments. Sorry if it was confusing

Thanks for clarifying. The survey about 'why Leaders are leaving the organization' is probably referring to an internal exit survey LLL entities give to retiring Leaders (a form for sharing things the entity might improve on, not in any way a survey that's going to published). There has been no organization-wide survey about retiring Leaders, so you are not missing seeing any results.
For info - the survey was only one of the tools which informed LLLI's
discussions about a title change. Check out the FAQs and other correspondence from LLLI for more details.
