Scottish Govt Consultation on Services (against) Violence Against Women and Girls

Independent Strategic Review of Funding and Commissioning of Violence Against Women and Girls Services: call for evidence Deadline is 1st August.

Using my annual leave to catch up on some women's issues, I found this consultation via a For Women Scotland newsletter. They point out that the first question states: "Women means anyone who defines themselves as a woman." and yes they've written to complain.

I have submitted my views to the review. It has nice online form, easy to view and complete, and you can choose to have your name published or not.

Thanks. My heart sinks at these 'consultations', tbh.

In one of the drop down 'further information ', they mention young men. They didn't see the need to clarify what a man was.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 28/07/2022 10:34

I know what you mean @RandomlyThrownTogether but if I can find the energy I tell them what I think regardless Grin I'm so angry about losing single-sex spaces even for MVAW! They can write me off as a random nutter if they like but it has to be worth a try.

@IcakethereforeIam ooh I didn't spot that. But they do need a clear definition, don't they?

In fact the questions don't talk about the sex of perpetrators at all do they? Plenty of room for blurred boundaries, misleading language, and re-labelling aggressors and victims.

Also by 'anyone who identifies as a woman' they're presumably excluding transmen and possibly also non-binary? I am no expert on trans identifying females but it seems some, at least, are drawn down the trans path by VAWG and the related trauma. It seems odd to forget them.

Just noticed the closing date has been extended to the 15th August.

I filled this in last month and everytime I mentioned women and/or girls I specified that I meant the biological kind and repeatedly stated that we need single SEX spaces and services that exclude all biological males regardless of how they identify and even brought up the rape crisis Edinburgh fiasco and iamsarah as examples of why we need to exclude ALL males. I doubt that it will make any difference but if we don't keep bringing it up nothing will change

littlbrowndog · 29/07/2022 09:54

It’s a shocker

I filled it in

seems like anyone is a woman or girl. In Scotland

young people. Who are the young people ?

I really didn’t understand some of the questions as the questions were so muddled up with young people. Children

thought it was about vagw. Totally muddled.

littlbrowndog · 29/07/2022 09:58

And yeah they never mentioned once who is doing the violence

it was like it just happens to girls and women by some undefined somebodies

The FWS newsletter has a bit about this consultation.
