German Prisons Experiment with letting convicted sex offenders visit brothels

Women as support humans again. Twitter thread:

Several German prisons experiment with letting convicted rapists close to finishing their sentences go to brothels as a form of "therapy to learn sexual interactions with women that are free of violence".

No woman is "experimental ground" for rapists.

This is a result of framing prostitution as "therapy for men". If men can get psychotherapy in prison why not sexual therapy? A therapist may help them work on social skills - according to several German prison wards a woman in prostitution should teach him not to rape. Insanity."

"Going into a brothel to learn about consent is the most upside down idea ever. In most of these scenarios they did not inform the women so they had no idea they were facing a convicted rapist. Like with any john they had to pretend to enjoy it no matter how gross or torturous."

"The practice of letting convicted rapists "experiment how not to rape" on women in prostitution has been going on in Germany since at least 2001- so a year prior to our liberalisation law showing how entrenched the "prostituted women as rape fodder" myth was all the way back then"

"In other cases prison wardens ordered women in escort prostitution to come into prisons and teach mentally handicapped convicted rapists about consent through pain sex acts. I don't even know what to say about that... It's so utterly inhumane towards those women."

"This is only possible through the complete dehumanization of women in prostitution specifically by supposed experts of mental health and crime prevention. They must believe these women are unrapeable 24/7 nymphos... otherwise they're saying it's okay if THOSE women get raped."

"There was some pushback against the policy of letting men convicted rapists violent crimes use prostitution as "rehabilitative therapy" after a man imprisoned for brutally killing his girlfriend out on day parole murdered Marylène Lévesque, a 22-year-old woman in a Quebec brothel"

"It's also not uncommon for actors in the "justice system" incl judges to tell convicted rapists/murderers (including of children) that they should have taken out their "needs" or "kinks" on women in the sex trade. This is not the society I want to live in."

t.co/kyZNUGCPc7

"Look, I really get that people want women in the sex trade to get the same societal respect as e.g. psychotherapists and that's why many push for the "sex work is healing work" narrative. But most of the implementation looks more like "prostituted women are rape fodder"."

This is absolutely horrific, and speaks volumes about how women in prostitution are really regarded by the faux-progressives. Be kind, eh? Woman as ultimate service robot.

Still, I’ll count the minutes until MargaritaPie et all appear on the thread with some bogus “rationalisation” of how this is all just peachy and very very progressive indeed.

RoseslnTheHospital · 27/07/2022 12:20

This is disturbing in the extreme. I hate the idea that some women are considered to be "rape fodder" to protect the other, nicer, kind of women, it's just grim. And they didn't even tell the women that they were using in these brothels that they were interacting with an imprisoned, convicted rapist.

No one has a sexual "need". It's a want or a desire, and it is vitally important that men understand that because satisfying that want or desire involves another human being, you can never expect or demand to have that want/desire satisfied. It's always conditional on the enthusiastic consent of another human being. So obvious it beggars belief it needs saying.

What the fucking fucking fuck?

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 27/07/2022 12:43

You can give your girlfriend money (or indeed your boyfriend) if you so wish but you can't buy consent. If she wouldn't want to do it if you weren't paying her she doesn't want to do it.

Yes it's true that both men and women often don't want to do the thing they do for work, but they do it because they need the money. That's because there are significant ways in which sex and work are different. Your boss can reasonably ask you to do something you don't want to do. Your boss cannot (legally or reasonably) ask you to have sex with him or others. For the johns their should be criminalised (and enforced) having sex with someone who doesn't want to have sex with you is rape and always abusive.

Ontomatopea · 27/07/2022 12:52

In most of these scenarios they did not inform the women so they had no idea they were facing a convicted rapist. this is horrific

RewildingAmbridge · 27/07/2022 12:53

I work with sex offenders, this is not appropriate

Brefugee · 27/07/2022 13:01

Hang on to your hats.
It is 3 or 4, they were nearing the end of their sentences and on much more relaxed regimens. The CDU and the Green party reps in the state parliament will be asking questions about it.

I am not saying it's right, and i don't agree with this. But the OP rather makes it seem as though any sex offender will be offered this.

Also don't forget: prostitution is legal in Germany, and the prostitutes themselves have responsibilities (medical checks, tax returns) in the same way other self-employed people do. It doesn't say, and I'm not going to assume, if the prostitutes themselves knew about the backrgound of these visits.

The German article ends with the information about the Canadian prisoner killing a prostitute and that makes it clear to me that the editorial staff at NTV at least aren't on board with this.

I'll be watching with interest.

Brefugee · 27/07/2022 13:02

ah, sorry, missed the part about the prostitutes not being informed.
I'll be on to my MP about this.

TheBestBitch · 27/07/2022 13:03

Christ, just when we thought the institutionalised misogyny couldn't get any worse...
How utterly depressing and wrong.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/07/2022 13:05

How do you teach rapists not to rape by allowing them to rape women🤔

Brefugee · 27/07/2022 13:10

I'm trying to find out more up-to-date information. This article is from Feb 2020

Faffertea · 27/07/2022 13:27

This is abhorrent.

I won’t pretend to know about the situation in Germany but even if legal I’d be surprised if all the women involved are there 100% because that’s their choice and they’re running a business that just happens to involve men paying them for sex rather than for something else.

In the UK a huge proportion of women involved in prostitution are because of mental I’ll health including substance abuse, poverty, homelessness and have disproportionately come through the care system and suffered previous physical and or sexual violence. So, some of the most vulnerable women in society are being used as human test subjects for convicted rapists. I don’t care if it’s 3 or 4. That’s 3 or 4 too many. And if those 3 or 4 are thought to have been a ‘success’ then they will expand this experiment.

Rape is about power and control not just sex so the whole premise here seems illogical to me.

achillestoes · 27/07/2022 15:11

Germany is a mess. I have no words.

Germany. You'll need a strong stomach.

Legalized Prostitution In Germany Looks Like A Living Nightmare

When German anti-prostitution advocates talk about the situation of prostitution in Germany, we hear the same responses, over and over: “You’ve got to be kidding!” or “How is this possible?” When we do presentations in other countries, people in the audience will often start to cry or ask for a break after 15 minutes to get some fresh air. The same presentations in Germany cause outrage as well, but we’ve noticed that people have become so accustomed to the situation, their emotional response is subdued. In fact, German men will often openly and proudly out themselves as sex buyers at abolitionist events. There is no shame in being a commercial sex buyer in Germany. This is an obvious and alarming sign that decades of legalized prostitution have shaped society.

Brefugee · 27/07/2022 16:05

Most Germans i know are uncomfortable with the situation. But there are women who go into this with their eyes open and they are not all trafficked.

And if you go to the local brothel/prostitute you can actually ask to see evidence that all their healthcare is up to date. It's not my personal taste but i would prefer this than driving it all underground.

The other problem, of course, is that there is so much more than this, but it isn't just in Germany. If you think there isn't sex trafficking in just about every other country in the world you are delusional. The difference is, that in Germany you will actually meet people who are very (too) open about using prostitutes.

They're handling it one way, other countries are handling it another. Not enough countries are doing nearly enough to stop people trafficking into the sex industry.
