Pink News lays into former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies, because she says she has experienced a backlash over her views on trans women in women's sport.

That bit really stuck out for me too:
Despite her own decision to publicly make comments opposing trans athletes, Davies now appears to be claiming that she has become a victim of cancel culture
What do they mean by this? If she had kept quiet about the unfairness she wouldn't be cancelled?

Did the archive get the whole article as I wouldn't call that an article, pile of poo!

rabbitwoman · 25/07/2022 23:50

Sharron Davies is absolutely fierce.

I love listening to her being interviewed, she gives no ground. She knows her facts and does not concede. She does not placate. I love the authority in her voice.

And she looks amazing and strong.

brokengoalposts · 25/07/2022 23:01

She isn't a former Olympic swimmer, she is an Olympic swimmer, there is no need for the word former. Pedantic, maybe, but I'd expect better of a serious journalist.

How about "should-have-been Olympic champion who was cheated out of gold"?

DdraigGoch · 26/07/2022 00:17

MishyJDI · 25/07/2022 21:29

Surprised lgb alliance hasn’t come out on this. Ah but they only seem to have an interest in trans issues. Makes you laugh.

What are you blithering on about? The LGB Alliance exists to protect the rights of same-sex attracted people. Why would they have anything to say about cheating in sport?

brokengoalposts · 26/07/2022 00:27

@DdraigGoch How about "should-have-been Olympic champion who was cheated out of gold"?

That too! It’ll happen to far more women unless the stand is made. FINA are making the right steps, at least.

If I was Sharron I think I'd help my money situation by suing mimmymum and pink news for libel but shes probably less vengeful than I am

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/07/2022 18:17

I would also point out that if you go to her official website you can sign up for her fitness plan, if that's your sort of thing, which could be a good way of supporting her directly...

Echoing this excellent suggestion

Smacks of look what you made me do.

Yes. It was clearly victim blaming.

Humbold · 26/07/2022 11:51

miri1985 why would Davies be suing Mimmymum? I've noticed their tweets are now protected where they didn't use to be. Have I missed something?

torquewench · 26/07/2022 12:00

I know she probably won't see this but Sharron was an inspiration to me as a competitive swimmer in my teens. She's still an inspiration now.

Absolutely agree. She made me do it!

I agree.

As an aside, it was interesting, if sad, to read about Petra Schneider wanting to give Sharron D the gold medal and about her health problems now.

skybluee · 26/07/2022 12:22

There are still people with these kinds of attitude in sport sadly. Was just reading this the other day -

www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=11408420

and there are views from both sides, parallels swimming in a way. I don't know if the discussion is more heated on there because you don't have to register to post.

Mennex · 26/07/2022 12:25

It's Penis News. Who cares what they think of biological women, we all know (and don't care).

YetAnotherSpartacus · 26/07/2022 12:26

Her compassion for Petra is very poignant and in some ways potentially prophetic.

Yes I agree.
I was very moved to read that Sharron had even introduced her to her baby daughter.

None of this is anything to do with Sharron Davies. It's like random words generated by a bot.

JoodyBlue · 26/07/2022 15:44

Based on the posts here I checked out her website. The fitness programme is good value - I signed up because I want to support her. But am really glad. Did the 15 minute workout, felt fab. Lots of member content that is nicely motivational. Highly recommend, she is older than I am, but she is strong and frankly looks fab.

As she says, it is price of a coffee spread over a month, 3 months or 12 month period. We need our stamina for this fight! 😁

Can you provide a link to that? 15 minutes still sounds like far too much work for me right now... !

KatVonlabonk · 26/07/2022 17:35

They shared that on Facebook and the comments section is a predictable sludge of jealousy, hatred with a dash of downright slander.

Pitiful really.

The article in PinkNews publishes a tweet by mimmymum where she calls Sharron a transphobic bigot which I think is libel and have never seen Sharron be anything but firm about biology and kind to trans people

Needmoresleep · 26/07/2022 20:06

Sun journalism at its best.
