Quite a lot of people commenting on this on Twitter

Yes, it's interesting how people's attitudes are changing now the era of No Debate is over.

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 14:53

I couldn't see. Does this poll differentiate between intact LARPers claiming to be transwomen and people who have had their male genitalia removed?

PearlClutch · 20/07/2022 14:55

yougov.co.uk/topics/lifestyle/articles-reports/2022/07/20/where-does-british-public-stand-transgender-rights

'or the purposes of this survey, “transgender” was defined to respondents as “someone who identifies as a different gender to their sex at birth, including people who identify as being non-binary”.'

Yes, it's pretty detailed, though I found the format wasn't very intuitive.

Conflictedunicorn · 20/07/2022 14:57

It’s all the sunlight I think….

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/07/2022 14:58

Bellini

They ask the question twice re women's (and men's) toilets and changing rooms, so both with and without mentioning that the trans people have not yet had gender reassignment surgery. This is the same as the earlier YouGov survey in 2020. Attitudes are becoming less tolerant of males in female spaces in both cases.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/07/2022 14:59

The TRAs on Twitter talking about it aren't very happy.

PearlClutch · 20/07/2022 15:01

The framing of this article seems enormously slanted and/or confused.

'those with the most anti-trans views are much more likely to say they pay no attention to the debate. If we use those who say that a person should not be able to change their gender status legally or even socially as our example, 38% of this group say they pay no attention to the trans debate at all, compared to 6% who say they give it “a lot” of attention.'

Anyone who questions whether the GRA is effective, safe, and clear legislation is 'anti-trans'? Is there even such a thing as 'legal gender'? A GRC changes legal sex, no? More clarity required.

CrossStichQueen · 20/07/2022 15:11

Oh dear seem KM is very unhappy and can no longer use the line "the majority of the UK support transwomen in women's spaces".

It was bound to happen given the recent exposure if Stonewall and GIDS along with the Karen Whites and Lua Thomas's.

Conflictedunicorn · 20/07/2022 15:14

Awwww nooooo. Poor KM. reality is a bitch isn’t it

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 15:14

I wonder why screaming at people and calling them bigots didn't work? It's a real puzzler.

achillestoes · 20/07/2022 15:16

Their reporting is incredibly biased.

PearlClutch · 20/07/2022 15:17

I can't escape the feeling the poll had a certain agenda in mind and is disgusted or disappointed with the results.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/07/2022 15:17

There's no spinning it this time, though, really.

Odd, isn't it?

' fash bigots increasingly refuse to like me no matter how much I threaten them'

CrossStichQueen · 20/07/2022 15:18

It was said by many a wise MNetter a few years ago that the TRAS would do the work for us as they would get too big for their boots and end up exposing themselves to the public which would not go the way they wanted.

Definitely this.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/07/2022 15:20

Given that they had similar results the last time they asked some of these questions, but now the answers are even harsher, I'd be surprised if they were shocked. They also asked some new questions, such as whether the NHS should pay for transitioning and whether children should medically transition. I hope this informs policy appropriately.

This. We have the likes of LiaR Thomas to thank.

eleanorwish · 20/07/2022 15:33

Apparently it's the fault of the 'elite', the government and the media. I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone blame mumsnet yet

They don't want to give us the satisfaction :)

CrossStichQueen · 20/07/2022 15:38

Yes the blaming of the media seems popular but when I think about the many articles I have read they have been factual. For example reports of TW who have committed sex crimes, the reporting of transpeople in sport and such. It seems that any news that reports on transpeople negatively even though factual is not allowed

Give it 15 mins….

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 15:45

They'll be nervous about blaming Mumsnet. Because it means a few people will actually go and look to see what's being said on here. In detail. Explaining why gender identity is a threat to women's rights.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 20/07/2022 16:26

I don’t think that gives the “TERFs” enough credit! TRAs are like this EVERYWHERE, quite bizarrely now I think about it, but terrible legislation that harms women in favour of the begendered has still been passed in many places.

TRAs expose themselves (mostly metaphorically) when they don’t get what they want. As well as when they do get what they want, and get cocky.

They’ve been putting on quite the public show in the UK lately, and it’s mostly a result of thwarted rage at the women who stand up to them.
