25 years together
twin girls age 8

partner arrested ( then became ex) subsequently charged and imprisoned for 4 years for child abuse

separation of assets. Equity is £170 k

man in prison and legal advice for him is 50/50

woman full responsibility for childcare, he will never have unsupervised contact due to risks.

he has proper solicitor as his parents are paying or he is using equity

woman wants to use equity to secure a home, stability for children. They can stay at family but not for long term due to medical conditions

flaw with legislation but woman needs to make complicated application to family court….. lots of threats from solicitors …..

any advice or pointers appreciated

Hi, I think you need to ask to move this to legal - and I think you need a good solicitor.

Very true

how disappointing though that in todays society, my girls are growing up disadvantaged, because their father is a sex offender, in prison and ,…. The law protects men more

fingers crossed someone responds in legal

Good luck. I'm afraid I don't know much about how it works in the UK. I split in another country which favours the kids a bit more - but still, for expediency (HA! - still dragging on after 2 years), I took 50/50 asset split. Then again the kids also get maintenance (although very little contact), so it's a different situation.

Good luck again - for what it's worth, I don't think the law in the UK places enough emphasis on what's actually good for the kids either.

It is sad. I have been briefed by charities as to how to communicate with the children on the crimes, in 2 years when they are googling his name, well they will need a lot of support….

sadly the children are always the victims
