Really fascinating programme on the long history of argument - from Socrates to social media.

Rhetoric v debate

I've found this a fascinating listen as this board is used to a fair few arguments. Also demonstrates more deeply why #NoDebate was an exceptionally damaging approach for stonewall
to take. And why we have the issues we need to discuss on this board.

Includes Tupac.

Love the young state school lads from Liverpool who smashed the debating competition and their reasoning for it's importance in education.

(Possibly a side swipe at Boris in there?)

Thank you. That looks interesting.

Reminds me of historic methodology.

Eg: (just a quick Google)

The 3 types of rhetoric

Aristotle taught that a speaker's ability to persuade an audience is based on how well the speaker appeals to that audience in three different areas: logos, ethos, and pathos. Considered together, these appeals form what later rhetoricians have called the rhetorical triangle.

It's brilliant! I wish he would come back and be PM for a while at this point 😕

Oooh episode 2 is excellent!

Discuss impact of Tv on political debates and also whether the identity of debaters matters

Yes if I'd have to pick a Tory it would have been him.

Yes, that was a particularly egregious outbreak of stupid when they had the chance to elect him leader, and didn't.

PearlClutch · 19/07/2022 22:47

It's just like the Bermuda triangle; that's why you get lost arguing on the internet at 3am with someone called furryhosebobs421, circling the plughole of logic and wondering about your life choices.

Maybe just me.

I'm not a Brit and don't live in the UK and know very little about your politians. But once when visiting a friend in London, he played me the talk Rory Stewart gave on hedgehogs. I fell in love with him!

The first comment on the video: "I just spent 13 minutes listening to Rory Stewart talk about hedgehogs. I regret nothing."
