Just saw this.

They have embraced the new religion.

Hearteningly most of the replies are calling it out.

Hold on, that's a gay man who's done really well (good on him), he doesn't talk about being non binary in the blog.

He could at least explain it, scientifically like.

MangyInseam · 19/07/2022 14:57

In the last paragraph he suggests that the Royal Society could ".. ask the incoming fellows to voluntarily disclose their sexual and gender identities" as a way to foster change in the science sector.

Ugh.

KittenKong · 19/07/2022 16:37

We have ‘sexual identities’ now? Someone is just making 💩 up for the sake of it…

Clementinecerise · 19/07/2022 18:06

I would like to think that the comments may have given him pause but no.

They will not be silenced, the comments telling him to grow up hand only served to confirm his victimhood.

I don’t think it’s going quite the way he hoped…

Igmum · 24/07/2022 09:47

Definitely love the comments. Looks like RS Twitter followers like facts. Whodda thought it eh?

GertrudeKerfuffle · 24/07/2022 15:32

I don't think they knows what 'vitriol' means. It seems they thinks it means 'not receiving fawning adulation as expected'.

As an aside, what does it mean if someone lists their pronouns as he/they? It kind of makes sense to have he/him/his or they/them/theirs, but what is he/they?

FemaleAndLearning · 24/07/2022 16:57

So he is a gay man. He doesn't explain why being in a same sex marriage for 15 years also makes him non binary. Is he therefore a non binary male? Calls himself queer too even though growing up that word must have been used only in a negative way. If this had been a post celebrating a gay scientist he wouldn't have got the comments.
Maybe he wants the RS to ask the gender identity question to new recruits so they can get a new poster person.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 24/07/2022 16:58

My favourite comment on his second Twatter post;

"Would you still be non binary if you didn't tell anyone?"

😂

I like the comment about the possible typo in 'professor of crop science'.

I may change my user name.

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 24/07/2022 23:52

Oh that's a mighty fine ratio. Even the Twitterverse is getting fed up with it all.

I assume it means he'd like to be called 'they' but won't throw a strop if people call him 'he'.

TheBiologyStupid · 25/07/2022 00:53

A great reply on his personal Twitter account:

"No vitriol here!
Hopefully it'll encourage more middle age white guys to come out publically as NB.

It'll put the kids right off ☺️"

LOL!

SavingsThreads · 25/07/2022 12:14

What's frustrating about this is that the royal society and other national academies have been resisting well to calls for cancelled awards to 'transphobes'. Disappointed by this but realistically it'll be someone in the comms team. Best thing is to email/tweet their president Adrian smith or ceo julia maxton.

FemaleAndLearning · 25/07/2022 23:22

Our Comms team used to be made up of researchers who had some communications training, now it's made up of those who did media studies. The woke level has rocketed!
