That's what I went with. It's a ridiculous question.

Occasionally part of me thinks that we should stop trying to bail people out like this. I mean this is what you wanted right ? To change your records ?

Its not a mental.illness so you dont wish to hurt yourself or die as that's preferable to being listed as the sex you are ?

You are all.well.aware of what sex you are yes? So we surely don't even need these types of questions.

And everyone's fully informed of what happens and what the consequences are and you have proven.to be of sound mind with full capacity right ?

But then really im.not that mean and I dont want to see anyone hurt. Well any more than they currently are because I bet this survey has taken priority over removing any other barriers to health care , there are no.more issues obtaining hrt or epi pens and parents aren't sent away with allergic babies untreated cos the kids to expensive to prescribe.. ...

But, Whatwouldscullydo, it's not just people who subscribe to this ideology who are affected. If you cannot tell what proportion of service users are likely to need gynaecological services, for example, how can you plan for them?

They need to define their terms but thank goodness it doesn't say the dreaded 'cis' word.
I have followed this for years but I am not sure whether a 'transgender female' is a biological male who wants to be a woman or a biological female who wants to be a man.
I know this obfuscation is deliberate.

@Whatwouldscullydo

The thing is, this doesn't help anyone. Not those who believe or those who don't. Not those who know who they are or those who are finding out. It just obfuscates.

Language is important.

I think you should send it to the new Secretary for Health. It is a shame Javid has gone, but he had started an enquiry into the messed up terminology in health related settings.

That's why we should just stick to sex. Leave gender out of it. Its irrelevant. We are constantly told gender and sex are different so if they know what sex they are why do we need to ask about gender.

Fairislefandango · 16/07/2022 13:33

I'd tick 'not listed' and type 'female SEX' in the box underneath.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/07/2022 13:38

After all these surveys are just a way for these groups to make more money.

It was them that lobbied to ve allowed to change medical records. Now they are paid to solve a problem they caused.

Apollonia1 · 16/07/2022 14:23

They should you ask:
What sex we're you born as?

Then if they want more information:
What gender do you currently identify as? (With an option for not applicable).

JacquelinePot · 16/07/2022 15:06

Would the Information Commissioner's Office be interested in this kind of thing? Orgs should only be asking for data that is required for them to do their job.

Somanysocks · 16/07/2022 15:13

It's daft as gender is completely irrelevant in the healthcare setting, unless it's to do with psychological assessments.

Cuck00soup · 16/07/2022 15:35

So I got a survey link yesterday and this thread reminded me to complete it.

My version didn't ask about gender identity, just if I'd like extended access and the ability to make online enquiries. (Well, yes). So did different areas get different surveys?
