Raquel R Sanchez in Spiked: Mordaunt, Sunak on trans

"The Tories are right to take on trans ideology
Women’s sex-based rights are not a trivial concern."

Relates the Mordaunt tweet thread and maternity leave bill and her about turn and even Sunak now making promises on women's sex based rights, language and sports, despite having previously refused to answer.

As I've been saying and now Mordaunt says, we had PM May and her female ministers promoting this trans self identity

"The previous Tory government, under Theresa May, had proposed wide-ranging reforms to the Gender Recognition Act, which sought to allow people to ‘self-identify’ into whichever sex category they felt most comfortable with.

In response, feminist campaigners started to warn that acquiescing to trans ideology would have dire negative consequences for women and children. Self-identification would mean opening up women’s private and intimate spaces – from prisons to changing rooms and rape-crisis centres. And treating someone’s inner sense of gender identity as distinct from biological sex would have repercussions for children and young people who feel uncomfortable with their bodies. It is now clear that many children want to disassociate from their sex by seeking dangerous and irreversible medical treatments."

Have I just read that right? Did Rishi Sunak refuse to define woman 6 times?🤯

Why? Does he not know what a woman is?

Valeriekat · 14/07/2022 02:36

I think it is worse that a woman doesn't know either. Can't trust Penny on this one as she has already lied. Kemi seems to know what she thinks

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/07/2022 09:51

Don't even start me on Penny TWAW Mordaunt.🙄

They think a woman is something different. That is fine, or at least, it is an arguable change in language.

What is not ok is to use that change in meaning as justification to open up everything created for the people who met the old meaning, which was based on what that specific group needed, to a different group of people simply because the meaning of the word has changed and to paint anyone how challenges the sense of that as a bigot.

That's what we really need to focus on. Not whether the word has changed or not, but whether what tis being claimed because of it is genuinely justifiable.

Absolutely, Rhinos - That's where the logic really fails.

Generally, we should treat men and women the same. But the Equality Act allows discrimination - ie excluding men - where the purpose is to allow women to participate in society safely and fairly.

But if you change the boundary of 'women' to being roughly based in biology, but with anyone allowed to switch if they want to, then the whole point of the legal discrimination doesn't work any more.

Legal discrimination (ie treating men and women differently, eg single sex sports and spaces) is only justifiable if it's based on biology.
