Moms Demand Action wrapped up in TRA

I live in the US (I’m British and a now US citizen) and I’m an active volunteer with MDA, Moms Demand Action. They’re a terrific organization, started at grass roots and have gone on to really impact the conversation and state laws regarding gun ownership and safely.

The group was started by Shannon Watts, at the time a SAHM of 5, who set up the group right after the Sandy Hook Elementary school mass killing.

MDA are a similar business model to the successful MADD, moms against drunk drivers, which made a huge impact on laws against driving under the influence.

If you’ve got this far, here’s my dilemma. Shannon supports TRA, to the point where I believe she’s rewriting history. Shannon has lots of time for Charlotte Clymer (our old friend Charlie who loves to mansplain) including giving him airtime on her instagram channel.

Shannon also is against sport being separated by sex, and refers to some of the recent laws enforcing this as “outlawing trans people from participating in sports”.

But what I found really surprising was Shannon’s comments about Trans and Stonewall. “Fifty-two years after Black trans women and trans Latinas led an uprising against police violence at Stonewall, the LGBTQIA community—and especially trans people of color—are still the targets of hate-fueled violence, which often involves a gun”.

Are any of her points about Stonewall true? I thought not, but I’d be happy to be corrected.

I continue to volunteer with MDA, it’s too important not to. But today I’m feeling frustrated with this mindset, and needed somewhere to vent.

Gender Identity Theorists usually claim that a gay black drag queen "threw the first brick" (they "trans" him posthumously) but there's no evidence. In fact, Marsha himself said he didn't get there until later. As I understand it, there aren't really any records because I think the activists were busy doing activism. It's such a shame because it enables young people and TQ ideologues to push an untrue narrative.

Not sure if he's still on twitter and his website is under construction but have a look at gay "elder" Fred Sargeant. I watched his chat with Glinner when it came out and just found another couple of interviews that look interesting.

No, she is re writing history.

Actually, sorry to be fair she isn't rewriting it herself, she's just regurgitating the rewrite that TRAs imagined up.

Right, I didn’t think the Stonewall thing was true.

And thanks for the info and links, @JacquelinePot I’ll take a look at them.

How frustrating, what need is there for her to hitch the wagon of that one issue to a completely different issue?

TheBiologyStupid · 14/07/2022 10:56

My sister (now a US citizen) is very active in MDA. I didn't know about Shannon Watts' attitude to the trans issue, but my sister has pretty much the same views - I wonder if that's where she's getting them from?

On what is she basing her attitude on sport? The science certainly doesn't support her.
