I'd nominate "Little Green" from the album Blue. A song about the joys and sorrows of motherhood, and giving up a child so that she can have a happy ending away from the mother's poverty. Based on Joni's own experience, sadly. I listened to it a lot whilst pregnant/during my DC's early years, and the mixture of joy/sorrow/fear/reflief feels like an intensely female experience.
