Whatever happened to Stella Duffy she/her?

Never been a fan of her books but I've seen Stella speak forcefully on behalf of lesbians on several occasions so it's come as a bit of a shock to find that she's now a handmaiden and seeks transinclusivity.

Here's what she's saying on Twitter:

So tired of straight people deciding lesbian women need protection from trans inclusivity. I saw very little evidence of your support for lesbian rights in my 40+ years out. Please stop using us to attack trans rights.

I wish she'd stop trying to give the impression that she speaks for all women. She certainly doesn't speak for me and many of the lesbians I know.

Oh what a shame - I remember liking her novels way back when. The theatre world is completely mired in genderwoo, unfortunately - hard not to get sucked in to it if you work in that field. But she certainly doesn’t speak for all lesbians!

This is from 2013, so nothing new

Haven't had time to red that in detail, but a quick scan leaves me with a 'not the sharpest tool in the box' sensation.

This has always been her stance.

Lesbian peers made good responses. I think it is a shame that her tweet was so aggressive.

I prefer it to stay a debate and not get sucked into cancelling and insulting. I don’t agree with her but she has an opinion, she’s hardly an extreme misogynist TRA.

Yes, of course she's entitled to her opinion. I just find it difficult to reconcile someone who was such a full-on, in-your-face lesbian not seeing any issues with men identifying themselves as lesbians and gaining access to lesbian space.

If she woke up and found herself 25 again I think she'd experience this issue very differently.
