Haha I love Shumirun!

But on a serious note, it's crazy how many men are so against vasectomies. Especially married men that are 'done' having children only to find their wife is expecting a wee surprise some time later.

My youngest sister was a surprise, but to be fair to my dad he got a vasectomy shortly after her arrival 😂 My husband is planning on doing the same once we've decided we're done having kids but he says all his pals were appalled when he mentioned it!

The amount of men that are vocal about "just" take a pill without considering the side effects day to day or "just" have an abortion, then you mention vasectomy and I swear they think you said chop their dick off.

The very fact that studies done on men for the male pill were scrapped because 1) the side effects - the same ones we have - were deemed too debilitating and 2) they couldn't be relued on to take it says it all.

It's crazy. So many of my friends are disillusioned with the pill now but because their partners don't want to use condoms they are trying everything else, bar vasectomies. This has resulted in one planned pregnancy (they were trying the 'pull out' method), one perpetual period thanks to the implant, and one punctured uterus from the coil. And that's just what I've been made privy to!

I've just done my own (which I won't post so as not out myself) and seriously, the OUTRAGE this morning.

I know this is meant to be exaggerated for effect but the reversibility of vasectomies is greatly overstated. The apparent rates of effective reversal are 75% within 3 years, up to 55% after 3 to 8 years, between 40% and 45% after 9 to 14 years, 30% after 15 to 19 years and less than 10% after 20 years. The longer a man waits to get his vasectomy reversed, the less likely it is to work. Even the best successes, where the vasectomy is reversed within 3 years, still have a failure rate of 25%.

There really has been something of a trend online since Roe v Wade was reversed of young men and mothers of male teens talking about their vasectomy plans to protect their future partners from unplanned pregnancy. Which is a nice sentiment but it actually does need to be stomped on because we are talking about potentially irreversible damage to a significant amount of men if they think this is temporary.

This is pretty fucked up. How can we be for bodily autonomy and then be suggesting this. Also it's eugenics.

Thelnebriati · 08/07/2022 13:01

Its not eugenics, its not even a serious suggestion. Its a thought experiment.

Why can't we think this, even in jest. Its what men have have been doing to us for centuries.

Why can't we think outside the box and imagine a world where it would be wrong to do this to men.
