WIBU to tentatively say the end is nigh?

Just a few things running through my head while eating dinner
Maya’s ruling (well done Maya if you read this!)
the Cass report (which seems to have spooked the trans organisations)
the fact Stonewall and Mermaids have switched off all comments - like they know public opinion has turned
sports organisations finally seeing the light

theres a way to go but can I optimistically say the end is nigh?!

We’re not quite there yet. They’ve lost a lot of ground but there are still far too many captured, influential people.

But the foundations are on fire.

thistimelastweek · 06/07/2022 20:02

Depends.
What's your end goal?

AthenaWhite · 06/07/2022 20:02

I think we're at the beginning of the end. There will be lot's of frothing and flailing before we reach the end. My goodness, we've come a long way though. So many women standing up for women's rights and basic safeguarding. I feel hopeful!🙂

Wouldloveanother · 06/07/2022 20:02

Forgot to mention, so many organisations dropping out of Stonewall

It’s a pendulum, it always swings back and forth. There is never an end. Live long enough and you’ll see this for yourself.

For gender identity to be treated similarly to religious belief - you can believe it, you cannot be harassed or abused because of it - but nobody is under any obligation to go along with it or accommodate it in any way. And it does not denote the right to be ‘treated as the sex you identify with’ for the purposes of single sex spaces.

We always think we are making progress and still outrageous things happen that people don't even know about (eg that hospital denying a rape could have occurred as it was done by a transwoman, "not a man") . Until we trace the silliness back to the fact that TWAW is a lie, nothing will change, as that belief will always lead to awful situations.

cottagegardenflower · 06/07/2022 20:09

The triathlon Association said trans women (men) can only compete with male competitors and not with female events, as passing puberty gives them an unfair advantage physically. Yay!

noraclavicle · 06/07/2022 20:10

On the one hand: my teenage DD, after reading the ‘womb carriers’ Tweet started shouting ‘fuck off, just fuck off!!’ and quietly removed pronouns from her bio shortly after.

On the other hand: I tried to book a coil removal/replacement today and was first asked for my gender identity and then my ‘sex assigned at birth.’ On an NHS website.

We have a way to go yet.

SquirrelSoShiny · 06/07/2022 20:12

I think now is the time to keep gently but inexorably pushing on. Too much is at stake. I'm not prepared to live in a society that can't recognise reality. There are very tough times ahead for everyone. A dose of reality in the room is really necessary in so many different domains, not least financially.

My friend in Texas has a lesbian sister who has suddenly decided she is trans. She's a young lesbian in a Conservative family and state. It took her ONE GP appointment to be given testosterone shots. Is that what we want for our own children?

So no, we can't get complacent now. The current shitshow in America shows what happens when good people get complacent.

I think this too. I think there will be a vicious double down before the end though and I am not entirely sure there will be a definitive END. I've said all along that too many people nailed their colours to the mast and now have so much to lose in terms of reputation, not to mention those who have actually built careers and their financial stability on this ideology. It will carry on flaring up for years until those people retire etc.

Brilliant girl!

justgotosleepffs · 06/07/2022 20:22

The trouble is, there are lots of people/organisations who are about 3 years behind on this issue. So they are only just now starting to implement gender-neutal toilets/pronoun badges etc because they think thats where things still are. As someone said on another thread, the front of the ship has hit the iceberg but the back is still acting on orders to increase speed

ChateauMargaux · 06/07/2022 20:25

I feel more hopeful that I did but I don't think we have seen the last of this... too many organisations have written this into their processes and do not see the harm. I also think too many children have been asked the question - do you identify as male or female and too many 20 somethings think this is progressive for 'all this' to go away quietly. There are many many people who are 100% convinced that using non gendered language is a good thing.

PearlClutch · 06/07/2022 20:28

There is a LOT of work to do. Tedious, intricate disentangling of every instance where 'woman' has been erased, hidden, quietly vanished from legislation, policy and language. We have made some progress; but this is just a start.

PearlClutch · 06/07/2022 20:31

So sorry, OP, the answer's no. The only other thing that might make a difference is if the US starts to catch up - they have such a huge population it could snowball and make a big difference once big names start to stand up. cough Bette cough

Rightsraptor · 06/07/2022 20:36

I heard the BBC radio news at 7pm today & there was a piece about Maya's case and also one on the Triathlon Association ruling about the open category - both in one short bulletin with, it must be said, stiff journalistic competition from the Boris shenanigans. That felt very positive.

Of course we mustn't let our guard down and we must keep pushing. But today - yes, I am feeling cautiously optimistic.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 06/07/2022 20:41

RCOG has come out as mental today.

But, on the other hand, my kids are less impressed with their demanding and attention seeking trans friends than they were before the school holidays started.

Spoken like an ancient sage. I thought we were meant to be the middle-aged has-beens? I suppose, though terribly middle-class, we can't be the kind of middle class who have studied or read anything meaningful. We just busy ourselves with TV dramas and school gate gossip.

donquixotedelamancha · 06/07/2022 20:43

I think we're at the beginning of the end.

I don't think so but I think we might just have seen the end of the beginning.

The Genderists have:

Control of the Lib Dems, SNP and Greens.
Huge influence over Labour.
Huge influence in academia, social work, women's charities and the NHS, especially CAHMS.
Significant influence in sport, prisons, education and the police.

The UK is in a much better position than the rest of the Anglosphere so there will be big support for the Genderists here from North America.

What the recent victories have done is given us the tools to start unpicking the nonsense, bit by bit, in individual organisations. It took a long time and a lot of effort by a very determined group of people to convince so many of such foolishness, they are a long way from beaten.

If they get the amended GRC they want in the next parliament, it will take decades to undo the harm.

Now is the time to write to MPs again or to Ministers and Shadow Ministers or your council or leisure center or whoever. Keep pulling.

That made me smile. I'm seeing this with the teens I know too. Eye rolls and sighs. One "Trans Boy" dd knows is quietly desisting. I told my kids they mustn't mention it or make her feel self conscious just let it take it's course.

Circumferences · 06/07/2022 20:54

While people like Stella Creasey "a transwoman is an adult human female" are still rife in the Labour party and doubling down, and idiots like LOJ are still taken seriously, I'm afraid we have an extremely long long way to go.

noraclavicle · 06/07/2022 23:00

achillestoes thank you! She is a brilliant girl. God knows she’s struggled in the last couple of years - ASD, doesn’t feel she fits in, fell down a couple of rabbit holes but we’ve talked and talked and talked and by Jove I think she’s getting it, in her own time and on her own terms 🙂

AlecTrevelyan006 · 06/07/2022 23:08

"Now this is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

FemaleAndLearning · 06/07/2022 23:23

Now is the time to keep going. The NHS is massive area to tackle and there is still loads to do in schools.
