Ultimately, there are three (legal) mechanisms for getting rid of a PM: vote of no confidence and they lose (BJ didn’t); election (party in govt get to call it); and shame (if PM has no shame, it has to be one of the other options).

Yep, stuck with lying cheating scum, aren’t we.

Tried 1, 2 is his call and he is comprehensively shameless. You have to have a baseline of other people mattering to attach value to their opinion. And he doesn’t. You don’t care what people think if you don’t really believe they are even people in the first place.

wellhelloitsme · 06/07/2022 00:43

You can’t blackmail someone who doesn’t care what people think. He doesn’t think people are important, so their opinions have no merit.

He won’t. He’s basically untouchable because he doesn’t care.

I agree, this is a why I genuinely think he is a sociopath.

He is not a sociopath. He’s rich posh and entitled.
no need to pathologise everything, answer in plain sight. He’s posh, rich, entitled

I dunno. I think he’s worse than normal. A lot of them do behave in this sort of diabolical way, but they don’t seriously expect to offer a waffly non-apology and then for everyone just to move on and put it behind them while they carry on living their best lives (which include more of the same) They resign.

There's a spectrum of course, from normal to CF, into nasty piece of work, past callous bastard and eventually to sociopath. I reckon he’s way past callous bastard.

Mind you, if he IS a sociopath, would that be a disability? It affects only others, not the sociopath, who is advantaged by their ability to use others for personal gain but not be burdened by the ability to care about them.

if it is a disability, then it should be neither diagnosed nor discussed by the public via the media. But society is being harmed by his social violence, and should be protected. Disabled people who commit crimes are not exempt from the consequences, even if they are unable (rather than unwilling) to prevent themselves. Society must be protected from harm by individuals, even disabled ones. Which is relevant, and is in the public interest. I’ll have to think about that. I would hate to be unfair to him. It would make me more like him and ‘not like Boris Johnson’ is central to my view of being a good person.

MarshaBradyo · 06/07/2022 06:37

I don’t think he’s any of these things

He probably doesn’t care that much although people say he likes to be liked so not always same

It feels like we’re landlocked in a news cycle stuck on him and people talk
about him or have him in their head a fair bit

He’s not that complex

MarshaBradyo · 06/07/2022 06:46

I’m concerned that Zahawi is more aligned to Johnson economically and will spend and borrow even more

Provenceinthesummer · 06/07/2022 07:27

I was just coming on to say I am looking forward to the inevitable tax cuts marsha 😅

Provenceinthesummer · 06/07/2022 07:31

The news channels have been gunning for Boris for months on end on a daily basis.

Whole sections of parliament have been trying to force him out with one coordinated corrupt plan after another, the very same people suspiciously that voted remain, with a agenda that looks a lot like a coup.

This is just the latest in a long line of desperate attempts to depose him. Whatever you think of Johnson he had a thumping mandate to lead the country and this really isn't good for democracy.

achillestoes · 06/07/2022 07:33

@Provenceinthesummer

Apparently democracy is in danger because - wait for it - the PM is the elected leader of the biggest parliamentary party, and they implemented the result of a legal referendum.

I think Johnson’s position is untenable, but the people calling him a fascist because they don’t enjoy being in the minority sound hysterical.

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 06/07/2022 07:55

Ha Provence that part is ok depends if they bump up spending even more too

He did get the mandate the media has been stuck on it for nearly a year - started by DC in a self styled campaign which worked

We lose our heads with all this stuff - Covid and this

Provenceinthesummer · 06/07/2022 08:03

I disagree, Boris has more right to be there than anyone else, it was only because of him that the conservatives won a landslide election - sadly some of the MPs have a very short memory, and have deducted that they can win the next GE with a more compliant leader. I think they are wrong.

If Boris is forced out despite having won the election so convincingly, then the U.K. effectively becomes a post democratic state. Look it up, it doesn’t make pretty reading - we might even be there already.

Regardless of how you voted, we simply can not have a system that allows fractions of discontented MPs and plotters to abuse mechanisms to remove a democratic leader at will.

The people voted for him to lead the country - not Penny or Liz or any of the others. We did not choose to have our vote discounted by a few determined rebels desperate to water down Brexit - which make no mistake this is what it’s all about.

Boris hasn’t been perfect - what leader is - he has been dealt a very difficult hand with the pandemic and the war - but we are heading into a very worrying state when leaders of any political colour can just be removed at will by plotters. We should all be worried even those that despise Boris.

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria
the alleged pregnancy is not with the musician. no idea what happened to her
the alleged pregnancy is with another woman now reported to have departed the UK
The interrupted intimacy was prior to BJ and Carrie getting married

There are at least two alleged pregnancies.

Yes marsha Cummings is all over it, and has been for months and months. I always considered Cummings to be a leftie anyway. No one is ever neutral - not when they have spent their lives in politics! I never trusted him or bought into his insidious entry into the very top of government. I have always wondered who he really works for…..

AmaryIlis · 06/07/2022 08:08

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 19:28

That was just a protest vote - when it comes to an election it will be blue again.

.
Did you notice the local election results? That was a bit more than a protest vote.

AmaryIlis · 06/07/2022 08:10

MarshaBradyo · 05/07/2022 19:35

He might be likeable but even he can’t bring about grid lock by striking.

everyone just logs in to zoom instead now 😀 (usual disclaimer re those who can’t)

.
It's very clear that he's not trying to bring about gridlock. Striking is still a powerful tool - not least in this case because it has really exposed the faultines in the government's thinking about public sector wages, terms and conditions.

I always remember his line that he’d like to bring down the system and here we are

He knows how to push emotional levers and repeat

Makes me feel a bit ill as it works

achillestoes · 06/07/2022 08:14

I’m starting to think what certain people on the left say they want isn’t what they want.

We want more young people in politics! (Michelle Donelan is only 38 - I have milk older than her.)

We want more working class people/state school educated people in politics!
(Not Michelle Donelan.)

We want people to have had normal jobs before entering politics!
(Not marketing. Marketing is shit.)

We want more women in politics!
(Not that woman.)

traffic went down

Compared to the old days where London would be in chaos it was very mild

It takes some leverage out

@LoobiJee

She is. She’s been promoted and this is good news for our kids.

It isn't really. Change at this point in the Education Department isn't good news for anyone. We have the Schools Bill going through, consultations on attendance and the SEND Green Paper, and children coming through the system with major problems after two years of seriously disrupted education. But of course Johnson puts his personal survival above the welfare of children every time.

achillestoes · 06/07/2022 08:21

@AmaryIlis

She has experience in education, though. Change happens. She’s a good choice.

And yet Johnson appointed him and backed him to the hilt over Barnard Castle. Tells you everything you need to know about his judgment, really.

On the other hand, it was very clear that large swathes of the electorate fully supported the strikes. Which put a whole lot of leverage back in.

AmaryIlis · 06/07/2022 08:27

Apparently Johnson wanted to appoint Truss as Chancellor but Zahawi said if he was left stuck at Education he'd resign. So much for principled, considered appointments of the best people for the relevant jobs. And he's just shown Zahawi and others how weak he is in reality.

MarshaBradyo · 06/07/2022 08:29

Listening to Zahawi

ok so far - on first day 😅

He’s got a better story for the public re background not that it is something that matters to me

fiscal responsibility and bear down on inflation - hope so
