School Sex Ed - should I email?

Hi everyone,

I am a teacher on mat leave and occasionally check in to my emails to delete things so I don’t have millions to come back to eventually. If anything catches my eye I’ll have a look - one did today as it was an LGBT presentation for year 8 (I am their head of year) to be shown during PHSCE. It had talking heads of gay and bi teens and someone who identified as a gay trans man (I’m not sure many gay men would accept that!). One of the key messages at the end of the presentation was “sex and gender are essential parts of all of us.”

It has really bugged me that this was shown to all of year 8 - it’s just nonsense on so many levels. Gender is not an essential part and to say that sex is is also stating the fairly obvious?!

I really want to email senior team and raise this (it won’t be my first time!) but I am on Mat leave and this will be the first time they hear from me in 3 months so it’s a little out of the blue..! Should I just let this go? I was also thinking of maybe forwarding it to a colleague who is also a governor to point it out.

gah - I hate this!

thank you.

Only you know your school but I'd be questioning where this resource is coming from and also why are they teaching children something so at odds with both the science curriculum and if your school teaches them sociology and health and social care.

You're on leave. Do not email.

I'd say you have a duty of care to those children to ensure that they're not being gaslit into dangerous anti fact, anti science, anti women beliefs. How you do this is the challenge.

Sex Matters is a good place to start - it highlights the legal issues and dangers for schools in failing to comply with basic Equality act and safeguarding guidance and following the dangerous demands made by adult trans groups:

You can ask them to email it to a specific person in a school
