... have written a letter attacking LGB Alliance.

'We are incredibly disappointed and worried about The National Lottery's decision to award LGB Alliance a grant, through its Awards For All programme.'

Filia's tweet in response:

'You block Feminist organisations from using your premises, refused to allow Women to show their collections (which you are custodian of) at FiLiA. You have responded selectively to complaints.

This attack on an organisation defending the rights of Lesbians is a disgrace.'

The open letter:

The signatories to the letter are brilliant, really improved my evening scrolling down that list.

It was going okay for them until Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and Adolf Hitler lent their support in quick succession.

I thought it was nice to see Biggus Dickus' wife lending her name to the letter as well. 😂

It didn't quite go the way they expected did it!

achillestoes · 02/07/2022 20:08

God save us from open letters.

PearlClutch · 02/07/2022 20:35

I have to admit some of the signatories made me raise my eyebrows a little.

If anyone wants their evening brightening a little, it's worth a look.
Good to know that he lives on:
Signature No. 1522: Basil Fawlty, Hotelier, Torquay.

Clymene · 02/07/2022 21:29

While a lot of the signatories are funny, i am disgusted by this letter. These childish spiteful Aunt Lydias do not deserve to be custodians of our history.

BlessedKali · 02/07/2022 21:31

Signatures are hilarious. I think they've closed the link as sadly I cannot sign 🙃

SerenaVanDerWoodsenHumphrey · 02/07/2022 21:47

Still possible to sign, you need to go to your email and approve the contribution before it appears, though.

IloveHolby · 02/07/2022 23:03

It’s a shitty letter bit but the majority of signatories are hilarious puss takers and have made me lol.

some of my faves:
Dr Incelman Splainer, Lecturer to women, Incelandia
Angry Incel (me/me/me), The Misogynist Library, Same sex relationships are verboten, Always centre men
Papa Lazarou, Hello Dave,, You're my wife now, Royston Vasey
Amy Soginist , just like the sexist male supremacist creep who started this petition, Hating women really hard, National Library, apparently, Anywhere UK

Ive only read the first 20 on the list and of those there are only 4 possible real names 😆

FemaleAndLearning · 02/07/2022 23:47

I love people's creativity, but the letter is a disgrace.

The 'Feminist' Library's latest -

twitter.com/feministlibrary/status/1543195134128492544?s=20&t=z1o-3tvVFJl4OWiRlGHpFQ

Someone has made a quote tweet (as the 'F'L have blocked replies) which makes a good point- if they can take signatures away which they disagree with, what will be stopping them from inflating numbers to meet their agenda? Makes the whole thing a study in pointlessness.

PearlClutch · 03/07/2022 10:03

How can they tell who are genuine and who are not? Clearly the whole thing is a bollocks.

From the loacked tweet: Good afternoon everyone 💘 Thanks to everyone who has signed the letter and apologies if you had to see hateful abuse when doing so

Dudes: you WROTE the letter. The hateful abuse is from YOU.

... there are flaws in the platform but we will preserve the genuine signatures in a new doc next week.

They can delete all the entries that say something they don't like, but there's no way to possibly know which of the remaining ones are genuine. Their front end checks that the email is valid and the poster has access to go in and confirm, but it doesn't verify the identity of the poster or their affiliation to whatever organisation they've entered. You can't go back and fix that without starting over and asking people to contact you directly and prove they are who they say they are. Anyone who has ever done any kind of peetition work would have spotted this up front.

I saw several seemingly innocuous signatures that are most likely malicious, in particular the ones that listed the names of the signer's employer - it's one thing if they own the company, but most for-profit entities still have social media policies. They may not mind the homophobia (and unfortunately they usually don't mind the misogyny), but controversial political drama that sparks predictable and legitimate criticism of the employer is usually restricted.

It's hard for me to see what is 'feminist' about the current policies of the Feminist Library.

KatVonlabonk · 03/07/2022 15:57

I remember going to a talk there in 2018, by Max Dashu (who'd been labelled a witch/ terf herself).

The staff were nodding along to her points.

In 2019 they appointed a new barmpot volunteer coordinator and the destruction of the place as a women's spaces started.
