Now I need to declare pronouns to get my rubbish collected!

I need to get rid of a dismantled shed, so went onto my local councils website, where you can book a bulky waste collection for £30. Online booking form, first question, what is you title? Second question, what are your pronouns?

Now bear in mind that the system is, you put the stuff outside your house, and while you're at work a bin lorry collects it. The council employees aren't even going to meet me, let alone talk to me, much less refer to me by a sodding pronoun!

Since the question was not optional, instead of choosing a pronoun I wrote a mini essay about how very, very much they did not need my or anyone's pronouns.

I'm so sick of this shit, every time I think the tide might be turning some bollocks like this turns up.

Well done for the mini essay. I would follow it up with an email to your council. I'm in the middle of an FOI with them for "Drag Queen Story Time". I'm fed up of letting all this stuff slide.

SpringCalling · 02/07/2022 14:23

Yes, every time I see this now I question it and push back. Small steps, but we have to keep at it. Go you!!

girlmom21 · 02/07/2022 14:25

That's absurd. I don't understand the pronouns thing anyway, because its how people refer to you in your absence.

achillestoes · 02/07/2022 14:26

Collect/the/bins

Somanysocks · 02/07/2022 14:27

I would have put something like Oo/Er/Mrs.

PearlClutch · 02/07/2022 14:53

Bin/It

PearlClutch · 02/07/2022 14:54

Bing/Bong

JacquelinePot · 02/07/2022 15:07

I wonder if this kind of pointless and excessive data collection is something the information commissioner's office would be interested in

TimBoothseyes · 02/07/2022 15:08

I had to do the same when arranging to have some stuff taken from my dad's house. As far as the council collection dept are concerned my pronouns are bulky/items. 😀

AlisonDonut · 02/07/2022 15:11

So the people who can collect it can say 'where did ze leave zeeir dismantled shed for us to collect it from zem?'

I mean, otherwise how will they talk about you when you aren't there? Will they just drive round or past or be unable to work out what to do?

Sounds like 'Allo 'Allo 😂

Pinklimey · 02/07/2022 16:09

Maybe they are having a problem with the rubbish collectors going "alf, where d'ya think that tosspot left their rubbish?" and they are trying to make improvements on this.

PearlClutch · 02/07/2022 16:21

Alf/Tosspot

Is there any limit whatsoever to what one can put down?

Improvements that nobody will know about because they are not even there!

I suspect reporting that 'rubbish collectors address people with the correct pronouns when the people aren't even there' will get them another Stonewall point though.

I'd honestly rather be called 'tosspot' than force people to call me something that they can't work out by reading my request sent through the website though. But I haven't got a delicate constitution and fragile ego like some.

PearlClutch · 02/07/2022 16:28

Improvements that nobody will know about because they are not even there!

If you misgender someone you don't know in the street at 6 am when they're not even there, does it make a noise?

crosstalk · 02/07/2022 16:28

Which council?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 02/07/2022 16:34

There seems to be a gulf between the ‘office’ and the team ( the people who actually do the job.

our rubbish is collected in the middle of the morning. We often see the guys (whoops) when we are working in the front garden. I have been called ‘Madam’ (Christmas when I hand over the thank you envelope), or ‘luv’ . My husband is called ‘Sir’. Not much problem with identifying on their side.

I’m sure you will bring the department to its knees.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 02/07/2022 17:09

My pronouns: Green/white/purple 😎

everyone needs to push back. I had the same when I registered my 10 year old daughter for a membership for the sport she does. I am going to email them as soon as I have a moment. If anyone has a good text for this sort of thing which I can copy, please share

parrotonmyshoulder · 02/07/2022 17:56

ChocAuVin · 02/07/2022 17:59

Go to section 2 here and Sex Matters will send a leaflet to them. Follow section 4 for guidance on how to write your own briefing as there's overlap with what you want to do.
