Thank you Savid Javid! Got menopause policy at work to stop using the word people instead of women...

I'm GC but in a senior HR role at a v woke company. So I have to be careful.

Asked to review the menopause guidance fir manager and of course they're too scared yo say women.... they went for ' people ' as in ask the person if they need support etc.

I accept there's some transmen who experience menopause so have no problem with a 'women and. ..' approach. But this wokery has scared the person writing the policy from using women.

I quoted the Savid Javid thing about NHS language not being gender neutral re biological stuff and they are reviewing it. Result!
Geez it's hard being GC in a woke workplace. I actually told one team member today that I'm agender as I find gender stereotypes contracting.
She said she was agender too as some days she wanted to dress like a girl and others a boy. She actually said she tried to be feminine on office days.. why?????

I said I was agender cos I don't give a shit and just want to be myself and she shouldn't give a shit either.

She's young. She wasn't alive when boy George was BOY george and Duran Duran wore eye makeup.

What's the question here? You're annoyed that a fellow colleague expressed she was "agender" and likes to flit between feminine and masculine attire? Is there agender attire you'd rather she wear?

And with regards to the policy..I agree it should say woman/women...not need for the +"x y and z".. x y and z do not go through menopause

*sajid not savid

Although I'm calling him Savvy Sajid from now on

Not annoyed

Just feel bad that she feels she can't wear a shirt in the office

I think you missed my point completely

I'll clarify

People just be yourself you don't need to justify how you dress in terms of gender identity!!

Op here
It was more the fact that she was afraid to dress like a boy on office days as she was worried she'd be judged for it. Ie wear a shirt and trousers , not a fake beard or anything

Is this what wokery has led to now?

I tried to explain that I wear makeup, heels etc not because I'm 'a woman' but because I fucking well want to. I personally enjoy the makeup routine, it's artistic for me.

It Doesn't make me a woman though.

Anyway we are both 'agender' from completely different angles. She's woke as can be. I'm a gender aethist.

I'm trying to see if we can have an alliance of sorts!

Well done OP. These small acts of resistance will all add up to something eventually. If there are a lot of people being just a little bit awkward and it will make a difference.

I'm trying to 'outwoke the woke' with the agender thing.

Then whenever I get referred to as cis I can do a gotcha!

Thank you OP!!

I think you're really brave.

I work in a very woke profession and I'd absolutely be cancelled if I said anything remotely GC, e.g. if I said I'm not sure it's fair for TW to compete in women's sport or we should be able to use the word woman in information sheets about female medical issues. I mean thrown off professional online forums etc. And I haven't had the nerve to do anything. So I admire your courage.

@Greenberg that’s appalling. Bullying and silencing at the highest level.
I just so Maya and Allison win their cases.

Random789 · 02/07/2022 06:43

That's really horrifying Greenberg. Every time it seems like we are making some progress back towards realism and the ability to speak freely, I read something like this and my heart sinks again. The progress starts to feel like chipping flakes off a block of granite.

Glad you were able to make constructive suggestions at your workplace OP, and that you have at least secured a review of the document.

Re the post that begins "What is the question here?", since when did mumsnet threads have to begin with a question?

I do too. It's really important they win to raise some awareness of how ridiculous some of these things have become.

SallyLockheart · 02/07/2022 07:18

If they win their cases, and I really really hope they do, I think they will get a lot of exposure by papers such as the Times, Telegraph and the Daily Mail, all of whom have shown themselves willing to expose the hypocrisy of what Stonewall say and do and the extent to which companies in thrall to such ideology seemingly just hand over their brains.

FannyCann · 02/07/2022 08:01

What is this whole "dress like a girl" "dress like a boy"thing?
I'd expect a young woman dressing for work to wear whatever tidy professional looking clothes she wanted. Probably with a dress code like the one my DD had in sixth form: "the headmistress doesn't want to see up it, down it or through it" which seemed eminently sensible to me.
If it's skirts one day and trousers another that's called having fun with fashion.

It's just ridiculous that young people now attach so much importance to those choices.

FannyCann · 02/07/2022 08:07

Also well done OP influencing policy.

My recent stealth terfing at work has come off the back of Roe v Wade. I put a post on the work intranet and am starting discussions but some of the links to articles I am providing will lead people to GC resources if they dive in. 🤞

FannyCann · 02/07/2022 08:09

Also OP have you seen this paper? I keep printouts in my work bag and pass it around. It's like a passport to clear language.

Thanks, but I rather rode on Savvy Saj's coat tails on this one. Wouldn't have dared do it without a quote from the health minister about rolling back the gender neutral language to the NHS.

I’m glad your policy uses the word woman.

I really hope Allison and Maya both win
